MrsSquirrel
I have no energy whatsoever. I wake up, drag my butt out of bed and go through the day in a haze. I have no energy to clean my house, do my hair, nothing. I know this is one of the symptoms of peri, but geez! I feel like an old person. I'm only 39! I've been reading where DHEA or testosterone can help give a boost of energy. Has anyone been prescribed that? 8 months ago when I had my saliva test my estrogen and progesterone were low and testosterone was high. I can't say I felt any more energetic then, well maybe a little - but I'm also wondering if adding DHEA or testosterone will cause acne and hair growth. I know I need to talk this over with my doctor and Pete, but just wondering if anyone has had any positives with energy and DHEA or testosterone. Thanks
moozie
hello Mrs. I dont' know about DHEA and Testosterone but I do know how extremely tired I am. I'm just like you dragging myself around all day. By 8:00pm I can hardly sit up straight. It's like crashing fatigue and I've had it for months and months. I know how you are feeling that's for sure !!! Hang in there. Hugs Moozie

Hi Mrs. Squirrel: I have gone through several rounds of fatigue in the past, including crashing fatigue. The cause of fatigue can vary. I suggest that you have the basics checked out, like blood iron to rule out causes like anemia, or thyroid problems, or any other common causes which your doctor may suggest. Perhaps this has already been done so then the fatigue may be due to one of the more "purely" perimenopausal causes (ie. not as well understood). Here is a little checklist: sleeping; eating well, taking minerals and vitamins, and omega 3 oils; soy and isoflavone containing natural foods, if you are so inclined; reducing stress; doing exercise; drinking 8 cups of fluids per day; not smoking; and not drinking caffeinated beverages to excess. Some add avoiding fats and sugar to this list. I add eating a bit of dark chocolate each day if feeling down, drinking fresh ginger tea with honey, and eating whatever (healthy) food my body craves. (I don't know about the effects of drinking and drugs.) Pretty long huh? Hope this post is helpful to you and not just a collection of "blah". Ha ha biggrin.gif Oh yes, I musn't forget my favorite, seek out humour and nurture yourself ....

I would check Dhea levels, before supplementation, as this is a hormone and not entirely innocuous. I've been exhausted lately, an exhaustion resembling the fatigue I recall in adolescence. Eat frequent small meals. This phase is wacky!! At first I have wicked insomnia, now I have hypersomnia. Ruling out medical causes such as anemia, thyroid, etc., was a wise suggestion. Try and walk , as that will help your energy levels. Also, fatigue is synonymous with depression. Chronic anxiety will wipe one out as well.

Hi everyone, I havent posted here in awhile because I think I've been doing a little better than I used to. I am experiencing that frustrating symptom FATIGUE. I really hate this as I am not getting anything done. Monday I was fine...infact from 7am until 8am that day I didn't stop moving. I must have burnt myself out but not sure. This month I've had breast tenderness which I dont usually suffer with but the usual migraine that lasts for several days before my period was absent this time. So I'm wondering if this feeling of fatigue is something to do with a shift in my hormones? I think I'm anxious today because I keep re-calling the time several months back when I first started experiencing the symptoms. I remember being in bed for 3 whole days not being able to get up and hardly walk around. My muscles ached and I reemember a friend calling and I couldnt even hold the phone in my hand. All i wanted to do was sleep. I just felt really drugged. I am wondering if anyone has experienced fatigue this severe? It was several months ago but everytime I get tired or fatigued I keep thinking I will end up in bed again and it was a scary experience for me. Any thoughts on this would be very reassuring. I hope you are all doing well. Gez

I am sooo tired and the worst part is I really don't care ! My dishes are piled my floors need swept. My house has only one sign of Christmas...afew rolls of wrapping paper and 2 bags of bows. And to top it all off I tore my ACL. By the way I am pretty sure I am perimenopausal. I sanyone else out there this lazy ?sad.gif
Niecarrah
I guess I am even too tired to type right. Is their any solution or majic fix for this ? I am 49 and have been in perimenopause for at least 3 yrs. now and I am getting lazier by the day.
EveningPrimrose
No Niecarrah, you are not alone. Fatigue is a major symptom for me and I cram everything into my good days and exhaust myself in the process. You are not alone with the typing errors either. Everything is just too much for me sometimes. Today though is better and I cherish the god days. Sad isn't it? Happy that I'm not alone though and I have the women and Power Surge to remind me that I should not be so hard on myself and neither should you. Keep smiling smile.gif Gez

Niecarrah, Sometimes I read these posts and just want to cry because I see myself in so many of them. How I wish I had of known about this site years ago. I sometimes think of all the grief I might have spared myself from thinking only I was experiencing these problems--especially fatique. Before I started on HRT, progesterone, soy etc, etc, I had only 1 basic good day a month without overwhelming fatique. I would force myself to get up, be up two hours and be so totally exhausted I couldn't continue. At that point I had never even heard of peri-meno. I came from a family where those things weren't discussed and the minute you saw a doctor they just wanted to shove you out the door with an AD and no explanation. Life is much better now and it will be for you too Niecarrah. You have come to the right place. ygirl

I've spent some time wiped out. In the past two weeks, I made some diet changes and started using progeterone cream. HUGE CHANGE!!! I'm generally sleeping better at night and feel good all day. I stopped driking diet pop, weaned to no soda at all. If I get a bit sluggish, I drink a ginsing tea and I'm good for the rest of the day. I've been sluggish shince I had Mono 8 years ago. This is the best I've felt in quite a while!
EveningPrimrose
Hi mkozmik I also chamnged my diet and it worked for awhile. I'll have to start cutting out sugar all together. I had a busy day yesterday but as usual I am totally burnt out today and al I want to do is lay down and do nothing. I feel totally drugged and washed out. I'm hoping I'll some enrgy will be restored later but I doubt it. Hope everyone is having a good day. Gez

My worst time of fatigue is right after my period... I sleep on the average 9 hours a night for about 1 to 2 weeks. I usually get much better around 10 days before my next period. I wonder if it is just the loss of blood, even though I don't bleed as heavy as I used to, and end up just spotting for 4-5 days after having a couple of days of "normal" flow? Another one of my symptoms is a terrible achiness throughout my body just like having the flu. I was hoping my period would end soon, I would go into menopause, and everything would go back to normal. I just read a post of one of our menobuds and she's been in menopause for 6 years and getting worse instead of better. YIKES! ohmy.gif That's not what I wanted to hear at all. sad.gif Anyobody else out there who's worse off now then during perimenpause? Thanks, Angela
moozie
Hate to tell ya this but I'm WAY worse since post menopause, the fatigue is unbearable. I've been like this for months, and post for 4 years...hate to say it but post has been a nightmare for me. As alot of you know already ohmy.gif Hugs, Moozie

Hey, moozie! There's no one in the chat room, so I have to settle for flumbering around in the boards. Just wondering, has your doctor ever recommended that you be evaluated for CFIDS (chronic fatigue syndrome)? Or fibromyalgia? These conditions, like peri, have lots of wacky symptoms, and of course, fatigue is a primary one. I have interstitial cystitis, which is part of an illness cluster that can likewise have lots of other symptoms: IBS, migraines, vulvodynia, etc. Fatigue is also part of this for me, so I totally understand your struggle. It doesn't feel fair to feel "old" at 51 - I'd always envisioned myself as becoming a vibrant older woman! Makes me feel pretty irked at times.
