The last 2 weeks I've had the worst metal taste-sometimes it gets a bit better, but I'm wondering if anyone else has this symptom. Water tastes bad also. I've heard some people get it in pregnancy, so it makes sense that it's happening in peri-menopause, I guess. And even though it's not that fun to eat, or drink anything, I still manage to eat a ton!!! At least I should be losing weight if stuff tastes bad. Apparently my need for food can override anything. I just go for really strong-tasting food to cover up the taste!! Oh, well, another fun symptom.

Hi DebSu, I too for some reason have had a terrible taste when I eat. I have no idea what is causing it - has been good for the weight loss though, but EVERYTHING tastes yuk! I can't say that mine is so much a metal taste, but either the food has no taste or else it tastes very very spicy - and I hate spicy. I also have a problem on the other end with diahreah - so who knows if this is the peri or what....go figure.

I endured that horrid 'penny-on-my-tongue' taste for nearly a year. (two years ago) Went to my dentist...who sent me to an oral surgeon (cancer check). My internist, my ob/gyn.... NOT one of them related it to perimenopause. My lady gyn didn't even mention the possibility --I was 48 at the time. duh. I had not a clue until about six weeks ago when some site I was on spoke of the correlation (sp?) In fact a great deal of what I sought medical treatments for in the last few years I have found now to been peri signs but NOT ONE of the medical 'experts' discussed the concept. I contend if a man had to deal with all this there would be a wing on the White House for study of menopause. It is such a relief to read this chatline and find out these tidbits, eh? For years and years I endured horrid menstrual cramps "it's all in your head, sweetie, take an aspirin" Oh, that would be endometriosis, Doc. Thank you. Then I discovered Vioxx (thanks to a great gyn/ob) and darned if I didn't enter peri right after that! What the luck! hahaa Like I said.....an entire wing on the White House! This site is fabulous....thank you all for sharing and caring.

I just started getting that weird taste at the back of my mouth about a week ago, that was the final straw. Now I'm looking for answers and I find this site, so something good came of it after all smile.gif

Hi everyone - Yup, the metal taste, penny on my tongue flavor is another perimenopausal thing!! It happens to me but ....it's not consistant. It's not all the time..... ho-hum, I wish chocolate would taste like metal, that would save me at least 5-10 pds. a year:D. Stacy
