I've been experiencing intense hot flashes  (frequent day and night, waking me at night, etc.) for about two months.  I was given a blood test and they told me I was perimenopausal.  So far gone I wouldn't be able to conceive.  (I haven't had a period in 2 1/2 months.) Now, for the past week I have had maybe three hot flashes (as opposed to three an hour before).  Before, my emotions felt totally out of control, deep depression, panicky...)  Now, other than feeling extremely tired, I feel fine.  Help!  What's going on?

Another symptom:  my breasts were VERY tender and swollen.  They hurt!  Now, they're back to normal.

Snowbird is right . It's just the old menopause causing all that . You might go back to hot flashes again or they may be gone . Then again, maybe they will just be now and then. Other symptoms may rise up now and then also. Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones that will be over all the symptoms really fast. Everyone seems to have their own reaction to menopause. There is no set things that everyone goes through. It's downright confusing. Easier to deal with when you know that we all are in the same confusing boat. :)Hugs, jeanne

Hi, Jeanette,  Wow, we sure have a lot of ladies with "Jean" somewhere in their name!  Cool.  You mentioned that a blood test indicated that you were perimenopausal, so much so that you are past time to be able to conceive.  Just a thought...is it possible you are pregnant now?    I was thinking just last night how I had hot flashes when I first started my periods and I also had hot flashes when I was pregnant each time.  I just didn't know what hot flashes were then.  Also, prior to my periods (until the past very few years), my breasts would be so swollen and tender, I tried to walk real easy so they wouldn't jiggle smile.gif.  My breasts also got that way when I was pregnant each time.

And then, of course, like the other ladies said, you could just be having some erratic perimenopausal symptoms and these erratic symptoms could be your "normal" (whatever that is smile.gif ) symptoms.

Definitely stay in tune with your doc.  If you were given something to help w/the hot flashes, he/she should know about the changes.

It seems that a lot of us go through a certain amount of discomfort before we find things that will help us.  Also, keep in mind that what works now, may not work next week or next month.

Hang in there!  I'm sure there are answers to your questions!!

Jeanette, an expression I've often used in Power Surge is "The only consistent thing about menopause is that it's consistently INconsistent." That's the sum and substance of it. A woman can feel as though every bone in her body is aching - in fact, places hurt she never knew existed before. Hot flashes can be coming once a day - ALL DAY. Night sweats, severe anxiety, mind-boggling depression, mood swings, crying without provocation, incontinence (which I always wished would OCCUR on ANOTHER CONtinent from the one I was on) and a plethora of other symptoms. Then, a week or two later, she can be feeling almost like her old self again. This pattern can repeat itself over and over during the time a woman is preparing to lose her period (which is called perimenopause). There's often no telling how we're going to feel from one day to another.

I'd say at this juncture, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. If you're feeling better, enjoy every nanosecond of it because who knows what tomorrow may bring, OR you may be one of the lucky ones and might continue feeling fine. It's a combination of the luck of the draw and how you've learned to cope with your symptoms combined with using various methods of treatment that work for you!
