WHEW!  Hot flashes were not what I expected them to be ... yes, I do get a dizzy feeling just before one ... sometimes it is also a desparate, anxious feeling that I'm going to faint if I don't get cool NOW!!!  The other day, before I knew what I was doing, I had flung myself onto the cool linolium floor of my friend's office, kicking off my shoes and socks.  lol.  Fortunately she is a lady about my age and understood.

Major hot flash at work?  Honey, I'm the expert.  Let's face it - if you're a woman between 40-55, and you're red in the face with sweat dripping down your face and neck, and other people are wrapping their sweaters around them because the air conditioning is too cold, THEY KNOW you're having a hot flash.  I don't hide it any more - I laugh and say, "Lord, get me through this power surge!"  and everyone laughs with me.  Meanwhile, to cool myself, I always have a cup of icewater on my desk, a small fan that I can turn on when I get too hot, and if I'm doing alot of walking around, I make sure I sit down somewhere - ladies room, someone's office to "chat" - until the heatwave passes.  And it will.Good luck to you, Tamara - and welcome to this wonderful website full of wonderful women!

My first few hot flashes were very mild also ... in fact it was several weeks before I thought "OH!  maybe that was a hot flash.... no big deal"  ... you might get lucky and they will stay at that level, or you might not.  It's nice to be fore-warned though.  Mine go through really obnoxious phases for a week or two, then die down for a few months ... they seem to be escalating, though, so I must be building up to the big MENOPAUSE - lol.  I need to have the test done soon.

Hey, Sylvry Moon, we could be twins!  Anymore I'm usually the "comedic relief" at our staff meetings.  I walk in, go straight to the windows and open one (yes, even in winter) and/or make sure I'm near a fan (yes, year 'round), and I try to always have some tissues with me to mop up my face.  If I can give my fellow workers a little giggle, then at least someone is getting some benefits from peri!!

Also, everyone else had taken their fans home for the winter, but not me.  I have kept two fans in my room, right...year 'round.  I haven't worn a winter coat in 2 years.  I hardly EVER wear anything longsleeved anymore (right again, even in winter).

I just plan my so-called wardrobe as if I were going to spend the day in the desert--outdoors!!   Hang in there, Tamara smile.gif  Good to know you're trying to be prepared!

Here's my next silly question:  WHY do these hot flashes seem to come at ANY time of the day?  There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason (that I can see) - for all I know, it might depend of the phase of the moon!  Or is this just me?

Tamara....Hi!!

NOT a SILLY question AT all!!  Altho' the ANSWER might be!!:biggrin::biggrin:Hot Flashes COME and GO at their OWN convenience....almost like they have a mind of their OWN!!  Altho'....I do know that stress.....anxiety....or....for Xample...IF~~~ "Mel Gibson, showed up at my door.....and wanted *ahem* directions to the nearest airport," would, without a doubt, trigger something with the Snowbird!! wink.gifwink.gifwink.gif

Seriously.....cuz......what's happening in our bodies.....hormonal fluctuations, etc.,etc.....it doesn't take much!!  Sometimes with me.....I just have to think of ONE......then....whamm!! ohmy.gif:o  However, It's getting better...MUCH better!!  Now, instead of a hot flash, I just hafta think of Mel.....errr...hubby....."they look alike" *grin*.....and I feel like I'm about to molt!!  *Chuckle* Warned Ya!! Silly Answer.......but probably closer to the truth than not!! wink.gif(((((Hugs from a Canadian Chick)))))                   Nancy

Tamara
Thanks, Nancy!And...could OUR husbands be long-lost twins?  Mine, too, has an uncanny resemblance to Mel...(I must've seen Lethal Weapon IV a million times)

I have been having hot flushes with dizziness and nausea for nearly 3 yrs now and up until recently I had tried not to believe that there could be a simple explanation as I'm too young for even my family history really. So I was checked at the hospital for thyriod and sugar problems.I remember having a really bad spell in the waiting area and rushing to the loo to cool down and stop myself feeling sick. When I told the doc he just said well it does get hot in here and your nervous. They haven't changed much apart from getting more often.I do sometimes have to go find a cold part of the house or stand in front of the freezer melting the ice.I still get dizzy and feel sick but at least I know it will pass soon.Does anyone have a problem sitting still when this happens?I find I feel worse if I don't move around. When I met my husband I always had cold feet and hands that was up until 3 yrs ago when I started to warm up suddenly and I am now a hot water bottle.(hot and clammy).I wouldn't go out without a coat, even in summer, now I almost forget to take one on the coldest days.Best of luck find any cooling, lots of love Meesh.
