My hot flashes are becoming horrible! They hit me several times a day and boom! I become wringing wet and dizzy! It's especially bad when you are out in public, people see me drenced, bright red and looking like I'm going to faint. I going to my gyno for the first time about getting treatment for peri-menopause (I''ve got other symptons as well) Any suggestions or advice?

Karen-Marie,There are separate boards for Revival Soy, and for alternative herbs and medicines.  But you asked the question here, so here is where I'll answer.  My hot flashes also came several times a day, and at night.  Especially embarassing at work, where I'd end up drenched and beet red.  First, my doctor put me on phytoestrogens (plant-based estrogens) and Evening Primrose Oil.  Which sort of helped, but not a great deal.  Then, a few weeks ago, I started drinking a Revival Soy drink for breakfast.  It took about 10 days - but voila!!  Gone!!  And I didn't miss those dang hot flashes at all -- until I ran out of Revival and forgot to call, and have been out for 2 days (a shipment is on its way, but won't be here for another 2 days or so).  Today, they're ba-a-a-a-ack!!  So that's what's worked for me.  Other women have other suggestions, I'm sure.  And be sure to have a glass of ice water on hand at all times, and dress lightly.  That all helps too.Good luck!

I can relate! My hot flashes were most embarassing in church. That is definitely a place I can't start stripping my clothes off! wink.gif  I started using Estroven.  I love it.  It took about six weeks for it to begin to work, but I haven't had a hot flash or night sweats in months now.

More than there being several "boards" with information about the various methods of treatment including hot flashes, there's a wealth of information on the entire Web site. You can begin with the recommendations page of the site and use the links below or the menu at the top of each page to visit the various areas of the site.

Karen - sorry you are having such a bad time with the hot flashes - read up on everything before you go to the doc. and check out this whole board for info which may help you....also maybe carry a small water bottle to sip thru the day and some wet ones to cool you down...isn't it the pits...as for myself I used tohave then at night the most - not too bad now...but have noticed them appearing as I am about to rise about 5am (cheecky sods)...I use the Natural Prog. cream and this helped...Hope you find something that works for you - everyone one of us is so different.....Take Care Sister:)

Cindy, Hi!!

Premarin, didn't work well for me!!  It did help the Hot Flashes for a couple of years.....but soon thereafter, the sweats came back....actually worse than before I started the hormones!! :oPremarin, being synthetic from horses urine, in my opinion eventually reacts badly on our bodies.  It sure did with mine and I had to stop taking it.You might want to consider a different form of estrogen if your flashes continue.

Take care and good luck.((((((Hugs from a Canadian Gal)))))))                  Nancy

I am new to this site and this is my first post. I have already learned so much. Thanks! I am not sure where I am in my venture through this new chapter in my life/body. I had surgery last Feb. to remove several cysts from my ovaries. I found a wonderful Doc. (after my regular one insisted I have an immediate Hysterectomy) who removed only the cysts and a small section of my left ovary. My periods which had been very irratic prior to the surgery came back and where normal for about a year. The cysts came back and my new Doc. suggested I begin taking Activella. Not long after I started to take it my periods stopped and have not returned. I am not sure if the Activella was part of this or not. The Activella did cause some breast tenderness and weight gain, but I was afraid to stop taking it for fear the cysts would return. I got brave a few months back and did stop, but my hot flashes and night sweats got so bad (I haven't slept through a night in months!) that I recently started taking it again. Problem is, my hot flashes are worse now and the swollen stomach and weight gain has started again. I'm not sure what to do. I am not sleeping and am beginning to have flashes several times a day (the morning seems to be the worst time). Any suggestions?

Hi Cindy and everyone else.I had severe hot flashes after going estrogen. They were much worse on estrogen than without it . I went off the estrogen and felt much better. The only time I get hot flashes are when I eat carbohydrates (sugar, pasta, rice, potatoes, etc.) . When I eat protein and a lot of green vegetables I have more energy and no hot flashes. You might try a low carb diet for a while and see if it helps.
