Well, Ladies since March of this year I have given up so much that I beginning to feel deprived.  My life is certainly not my own anymore.

I gave up smoking and cokes and coffee w/caffeine.That in itself was horrible.  I then left my job b/c of stress.  The hot flashes and sweats were almost unbearable at times.  But I would not give up my chocolate.  I love chocolate and since in meno I want it even more.  Well, I suddenly can't get into anything anymore and I am huge compared to what I used to be.  Sooooo, I gave up chocolate and the sprites.  I drink just the flavored water or Lemon water.

Well, I am having withdrawal from no chocolate - ohmy.gif ohmy.gif :oBut, no hot flashes.  Yea. It works folks!!!!  I feel so down without the chocolate, but I need to lose some of that weight.  Jeez

So my advice to anyone who is in meno and hot flashes are horrible, please give up chocolate.  It does help.      I am cool now.

Hi everyone, I just posted on the night sweats returning...and I DID have a piece of chocolate just before turning out the lights last night.  I am not a big choclate eater..OH gosh is this something that triggers them too?? I too quit smoking 5 wks ago..and I am thinking when I am done I will be hungry, smoke-free, and NOT happy!!! LOL Seriously, this board is always so insightful, I too will look at the carbs...thanks for all the wonderful information everyone!!!  Deb

Interesting concept about food/beverages contributing to the hot flashes.  I have been eating a great deal of tofu and drinking soy milk plus taking black cohash and the hot flashes have almost disappeared!  Then over this past weekend we had a bit of a celebration and I definitely drank too much wine!  I had many hot flashes for the next 3 days!  Has anyone had similar affects after drinking wine?  I'm very new to this site.  Love it!  Love all you gals!

THat is one thing that definately makes me experience a hot flushed face! Especially if I drink wine just before during and just after my period. Also sugar including chocolate. I haven't really had the sweating all over hot flash that some women get- just my face and neck get hot and red.

Yes! Hot flshes are a pain in the neck. I appreciate all of the info on caffiene and chocolate. I drank a lot of ice tea and ate chocolate and it caused hot flashes.  I pour sweat out of my head and it drips down my face. It is annoying. I read that calcium w/ citrate seems to help. At nite, i wear a light shirt and use a sheet. I also had my husband by me a small fan to use at nite. I get hot he gets cold. The personal fan helps us both.

I always have a hot flash after drinking coffee, but I absolutely refuse to give it up.  Love my coffee too much.  What's worse, I like sugar in it too!  I limit my coffee to morning hours only, and hardly ever have more than two cups a day.  As soon as I finish a cup, here comes a hot flash.  I go stand outside 'til it's over, and that's that.  But I ain't giving up my coffee. Huh uh, no way.  It's the only vice I have, and I'm keeping it.

Lol, Gini, you like your coffee!! smile.gif I have hot flushes (these are English 'flashes', same thing!) often after drinking alcohol, but I had or many years, so don't think this is related to menopause in my case, not a lot of fun though, whatever the cause!
