Hi - I am sooooo hot alot of the time  - some days nice & cool others hot alot of the day - like my face is burning up!  Then I will cool down eventually -  what is up with this?   Dr. wanted to put me on BC pills but I declined because my mom died from breast cancer and my sister has had several breast lumps (she did use BC during peri - she is done with meno and is only 46).  Dr. then put me on effextor for hot flashes - but I made him wean me off it - I did not like side effects I was having (High BP, fast pulse, constipated)  -  anyone else feel hot alot of the time - please answer me - I would greatly appreciate any feedback  Thanks - tkitty (Jean Anne)

TKitty,Sorry to hear you're having trouble. I don't know about the effexator. Is that an estrogen hormone? If so , I do expect that would raise the blood pressure and heart rate. I know I have that problem  with the high blood pressure and rapid heart rate .  I"m not on any hormones, but I suspect I"m estrogen dominant. Have you tried using soy for the hot flashes? There is a product called Revival that you can purchase over this web site and it's very helpful for that. Also black cohosh which is an herb.  I went through about a year of being hot all the time, and now I"m usually cold ! My face gets hot just before during and after my period, which I attribute to drop in estrogen, and my blood pressure also returns to normal at that time. Can't wait till all of this is over! Good luck and keep reading all the info that Dearest has provided for us and check out the postings from the other ladies on this site. I've found alot of other people suffer from the same symptoms as I do, and it's comforting to know you're not alone.

Thanks Suzie -

Effexor (i spelled it wrong) is an antidepressant that is supposed to help with hot flashes - I really hated to start taking it - but did not want to us BC pills.  I have been on it for a little over a month and when I went to Dr. for check how I was doing on it - that is when my blood pressure was high and pulse rate fast.  Raised B/P is one of the side effects.  Also constipation which I have on it really bad.  So that is why I am getting weaned off it - can't go cold turkey.  I was soooo hot the last couple days and then I started to spot and think I might be starting my period (1 week or so early).  So I really am coming to the conclusion that my hotness is probably from perimeno-(also my erratic bleeding/spotting)  I am going to keep a record of how I feel the next few weeks so I can discuss with my Dr. when I go back to have B/P checked.

Thanks for all your help - I appreciate it !!! - Jean Anne

Hi Jean Ann..OH I am going through some awful flashes right now!!!  I am taking Revival Soy drink, and natural Pro-Gest, which was working great before..but there is something tiggering these flashes.  I heat up SO bad, and then freeze after!!  My headaches are back, all indicative of a hormone "mess" up somewhere.  Im sorry you are suffering too....I am praying for a break soon, and a good nights sleep would be welcomed for sure.  I do not want to take estrogen, as I have Lupus, and have the anticardiolipin antibody that puts me at risk for a stroke......SO all natural for me now..I hope you feel better soon!!!!!

Hi TKitty -I am on Effexor for depression, and it doesn't do a dang thing for the hot flashes!

I started on naturally compounded hormones, which did help A LOT!!  But, unfortunately, I started spotting, and didn't stop for a month, so I had to stop the hormones and the hot flashes are back.

I, too, am hot ALL of the time.  If I could afford it, I'd keep my house at 65 degrees in the summer.  At work, I'm miserable all day long - trying to look professional in pants, a t-shirt and jacket. . . when I'd rather be wearing a tank top and shorts.  So I drink ice water all day long (I also make about a zillion trips to the bathroom - but it's worth it, just to keep cool.)  I also keep a fan at my desk, and have it blowing when the other "girls" in the office are putting on sweaters!

Sometimes, I'm aware when a hot flash is coming - I can feel the heat rise from my chest, to my neck, to my face - and then I stay hot for about 5-10 minutes.  That is a true hot flash.  Other times, I just wake up hot, and stay hot all day long.

I truly long for this time in my life to be over.  I wish you luck in finding solutions for your "hot" problem as well.

Being hot is taking over my life.  I wish I even had the "freezing" part for a few minutes. I vacuum (in an air-conditioned house) and I sweat. I sit outside, I sweat. I pull weeds, forget it!! At work I've been using Migraine Ice pads - I put one on the back of my neck (or if I'm desparate on my forehead) and it does help.  And all the chilly people in the office were borrowing them when the air conditioning broke in a heat wave last week!! And a lot of water.  But I am always, always hot - have never had a good tolerance, but since I turned 38 (now I'm 40) I have the flashes and the intolerance is unbearable. You're not the only one! Linda...I am the same way.  I am the hottest one in the office, and I work in an office where half the girls are cold.  I am always the one begging to put the a/c on, but you know, I was like this as a child too.  Never could tolerate the heat.  I am starting to like winter way better than summertime! Had a complete hysterectomy ten years ago, and I am off and on estrogen.  Maybe I'll get a job in a meat locker ;-)

Hi Fellow "Hotties,I have a "surge" problem at night!  I can be okay, temperature-wise, but the minute I get into bed, here comes this huge surge of heat and I get clammy and SO hot inside--feel like I could spontaneously combust !  My husband tells my my skin is VERY hot at these times.  I'm not convinced any longer, that this is solely a hormonal problem.  Why only at night?  Anyone ever heard of something like this?  I dread going to bed anymore!

Also, being hot all the  time, even when it's comfortable for normal people, plus the flashes-does anyone else feel almost sick from it? Sort of like sweating, disgusting, dizzy, gonna pass out from the heat sick? I never actually have (except as a child two times), but it's an awful feeling. If this happened to men there would be central air outdoors, it wouldn't be allowed to be warm, and there would be a cure. Not some "suggestions" that may end up killing us. Ok, I vented now. Linda F
