Effexor (i spelled it wrong) is an antidepressant that is supposed to help with hot flashes - I really hated to start taking it - but did not want to us BC pills. I have been on it for a little over a month and when I went to Dr. for check how I was doing on it - that is when my blood pressure was high and pulse rate fast. Raised B/P is one of the side effects. Also constipation which I have on it really bad. So that is why I am getting weaned off it - can't go cold turkey. I was soooo hot the last couple days and then I started to spot and think I might be starting my period (1 week or so early). So I really am coming to the conclusion that my hotness is probably from perimeno-(also my erratic bleeding/spotting) I am going to keep a record of how I feel the next few weeks so I can discuss with my Dr. when I go back to have B/P checked.
Thanks for all your help - I appreciate it !!! - Jean Anne
I started on naturally compounded hormones, which did help A LOT!! But, unfortunately, I started spotting, and didn't stop for a month, so I had to stop the hormones and the hot flashes are back.
I, too, am hot ALL of the time. If I could afford it, I'd keep my house at 65 degrees in the summer. At work, I'm miserable all day long - trying to look professional in pants, a t-shirt and jacket. . . when I'd rather be wearing a tank top and shorts. So I drink ice water all day long (I also make about a zillion trips to the bathroom - but it's worth it, just to keep cool.) I also keep a fan at my desk, and have it blowing when the other "girls" in the office are putting on sweaters!
Sometimes, I'm aware when a hot flash is coming - I can feel the heat rise from my chest, to my neck, to my face - and then I stay hot for about 5-10 minutes. That is a true hot flash. Other times, I just wake up hot, and stay hot all day long.
I truly long for this time in my life to be over. I wish you luck in finding solutions for your "hot" problem as well.
