I am 51 and was on Prempro for over 2 years with great success. I really liked how I felt but I knew that I had to get off of it because of the NIH study. Weaned myself off and now I have hot flashes.........bad.  I am trying Balck Cohosh and soy products but still not free of the flashes.  Any ideas?

Hi, Mary - congratulations on getting off the Prempro!  I know that it can be hard getting in this stuff sometimes.

Dearest has prepared a wonderfully informative website for us here in Power Surge.  One of the most helpful pages on the massive site is the Recommendations Page where it describes all kinds of solutions for various symptoms.  You can find it from any page here by clicking on the Power Surge Quick links at the top right of any page or by clicking here for the Power Surge Recommendations.

Also, as you read more here on the boards, you'll see what has helped others - and what hasn't.

You say you're on soy...I've been on Revival Soy for the 4 years since I went off HRT and it's been a godsend for me.  There's more information about that on the Recommendations, page, too.

I've never tried Black Cohosh, so I can't offer any experiences with that, but I know that others have used it.  There's some discussion on the Alternative Med / Vitamins / Herbs Board.

Best of luck to you and keep us posted smile.gif

I, too, gave up my HRT this summer.  I've been taking Remifemin, which contains black cohosh, and my hot flashes are almost completely gone.

I weaned myself off Prempro from Feb. thru April this year, and when hot flashed returned, I also started using remifemin, but I still have 6-8 hot flashed each day to the point of wanting to strip off, but can't do that at work smile.gif I wonder if I quit the remifemin, if there would be even more hot flashes.  Plan to wean off it soon and see what happens.  Right now I am prescription free, and I like it that way.  Remifemin is purchased OTC.  It is a lot of trial and error don't  you think!
