Hello Everyone,

You don't know how relieved I feel to have found this board.  I am 38 and after a miscarriage experienced what I am going through now, but compounded with depression from losing the baby, my doctors and I passed it off as panic/anxiety.

A week ago I felt these power surges or adrenaline rushes going through my body while sleeping.  They kept me awake.  My mind was clear, but  I thought "Oh, no, here comes the panic again."  Then later for some reason I thought, "Maybe it's a hot flash."  It seemed to come one right after another, like a contraction.  The only type of "Hot" I feel is that my face flushes.  I went to the doctor and he put me on the pill and did some blood work.  I have a long history of irregular, horrible periods too.

My questions are :Does this adrenaline rush qualify as a hot flash?  Also, does anyone ever get a rush of energy too... like you can't sit still? And...how long will it take the  pill to even out my hormones? Thank you all.  You don't know how happy I am to find this site.

Hi Mrs. Squirrel,I love your name! This is exactly the way I felt in perimenepause ! It was so scarey! I wish someone had been informed enough to reassure me that that was normal! At least if I can do that for you I won't feel like I suffered for nothing! My Dr. didn't know . He prescribed sedatives, antidepressants, you name it. I had every test under the sun- no one even suggested to me it could be menepause. I remember bringing it up to the dr. myself, but no one took me seriously because nothing showed from my hormone test yet. Anyways, yes. I do believe tne adrenaline rushes are another type of hotflash. Now that I'm actually going thru menopause (I've been 8 months without a period now) my symptoms started getting less intense. Now I have the regular hot flashes you hear about and not so much of the panic. Thank God. But if I could haVe known at the time that it was just another type of hot flash I could have relaxed more about it. At least I wouldn't have worried like I did. Relaxing is another story when your mind is wide awake and racing and your body feels like it could take flight! Ha ha! Just try to not worry and know that it happens to some women that way.Hope this helps.Hugs,

Suzie

Hello - I have experienced what you have described.  I am 41 now and my symptoms started one year ago. I have 4 children between 2 and 9.  After the 2nd child I had panic surges exactly as you describe.  She was only 10 months old and I had horrible insomnia for months and months.  I did not even see my OB/GYN since I thought it was something else.  I was put on anti-anxiety medication and eventually got though it and felt better about 8 months later - but it was extremely horrible for me and made me afraid.  I thought I would "lose it" and wondered what was wrong with me since the doctors said I was fine.  At that time I was 36 with 2 children.  Now after babies 3 and 4 I have had feelings of electricity in my body, tingles in body and head and the feeling of a rubber band being snapped under my skin.  This is what I call an adreneline rush.  Like the feeling you get when you are driving a car and have to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident, you get a surge of adreneline and then it goes away.  My body has been doing that and sometimes it doesn't go away for a while.  I have been to an endocrinologist to check my adrenal glands.  He said that I looked fine with no other symptoms and though I had a high cortisol level from a blood test and hormone saliva test, he felt I was just under stress from having 4 young children.  Then I found a web site that listed these symptoms as peri-menopause symptoms.  I have been to 8 doctors for this and now am comforted that it is hormone related.  The doctor who finally helped me used a hormone saliva test.  If you are interested in the details you can email me at kingsuites@mindspring.com and I will be glad to share with you the information.  Hope this helps you!
