My left eye has been twitching off and on for the past 3 years..all my eye tests come out fine.  Do you think this is related to hormones changes...ie...perimenopause??  I've been drinking carrot/veg. juice everyday to help strenghten the optic nerves....thanks, Caroline

Hi Caroline...

I have posted somewhere else about my experience with this, but cannot remember where that was.     About 15 years ago (way before peri) I got an eye twitch that was very irritating and noticeable, although it was not painful. It lasted approximately two years.

To make a long story short, I had several tests done, including a brain scan, because it was driving me crazy.  The neurologist told me there was nothing wrong, and that it was caused by stress.  I got a second and even third opinion, all the same.  It was very difficult for me to believe that it was stress, although I was very much entrenched in severe stress at the time, because the twitching didn't seem to happen at the exact same time that the stress SEEMED to occur. I was told by all the docs that it did not have to occur at the same time, and that my body was trying to let me know in a physical way because I was not listening to the emotional clues.

Sometime after that, my life changed drastically, the stress was gone, and so was the eye twitch.  It has never returned to this day.  If you cannot find any other explanation for the twitching, maybe you might want to consider this as a possible cause?

I , too, suffer from the eye twitching.  Mine has been going on for almost a year now.  It's usually in the left eye but sometimes the right and sometimes both.  It nearly drives me crazy!  My doctor thinks I'm a nut I'm sure.  But this is so annoying.  I've been to the eye doc and a nuerologist and internal medicine but to no avail.  They just don't seem to be interested.  Now my eye lids look swollen and droppy.  I don't know if this is related or not to the twitching.

I have stopped taking premarin for the first time in 13 years, and I too am having eye twitches. Related?

I don't know that eye twitching has anything to do with hormone fluctuations, because I have had this problem since I was a very young girl.  I think it might have more to do with a deficiency of some sort?  It may be a genetic deficiency with me, but that isn't to say that hormone fluctuations later on couldn't trigger thissort of thing.  My daughter in-law is going through a similar situation--I will ask her what her doctors have told her.  In the meantime--don't worry about it.  I think some of these things just happen to us as we go through life.  We tend to want to blame hormone imbalances on everything---and though they have MUCH to do with how our bodies function (or don't function), there are some normal things that are just going to happen as we age.  I know that when my eye starts to twitch, it will continue on and off for a few days, then it stops for weeks, months at a time.  Then starts again.  It's irritating to say the least, but I've never worried about it.
