I am 48 and the other day I had a very uncomfortable experience.  I was at a meeting and all of a sudden I felt very warm, and my ears started ringing like crazy!  I felt tired, and it lasted about 1 1/2 hrs., then it went away, and man was I cold.  It has happened one other time, mostly the exact way.  Your impute would be greatly appreciated.  Thanx

vctorea:  Perhaps it's because it's the weekend that no one answered your post.  I'm sure we're not the only ones to get these periods of on going warmth.  I've been getting them lately, I'll feel warm, especially my face for quite awhile.  Then I am cold!  The warmth is ok, as it's getting cold here.  But I'm going to wear out the thermostat!  I think this is normal.  I try not to obsess.  As to the tiredness, I think that's normal, too. Be sure to take a good vitamin supplement.  Hot flashes deplete us of important vitamins and minerals.  Remember your calcium and magnesium, also.  Right now I'm out of my vitamins, forgot to order them in time, and I can feel the difference!

Hi Vctorea sounds like you had a hot flush, I get the ringing in my ears quite a lot, sometimes before a flush sometimes after, but I get the ringing mostly when I am very tired and anxious and this also makes me feel very tired for a while. In my case its all anxiety, especially if I'm worried about something and cant come to a decision, the ringing usually goes after a few minutes. I try to sit down and relax and just take time for me that usually helps, but most of all don't worry about it you have lots of friends here all going through the same things. Luv Jenniffer

Hi I am new to the board and want to say that I am 48 but i have been having these hot flashes for 4years now every 20 to 40 minutes 24/7. Sometimes they get into a cycle where one starts as one ends and I get no relief. I finally after trying so many alternative products (I am a strong beleiver in natural medicine had my child at home no drugs etc..) but it was getting so I could not function as a human with no sleep and the hot and cold constantly. I felt torn apart. I did go to a chinese doctor that told me I had what he called a false fire that would flare up and becuase there was nothing to burn it would drop thus leaving my body below body temperature. I took the herbs he perscribed and they reduced the flashes to a bareable intensity. But I moved out of that country and it all started again so I have been using the patches which are known to produce cancer. I am frantically looking for a doctor that can perscribe compounded hormones which are natural. Does anyone here have any experience with them?

glad to see i'm not going at this alone.  my flushes are worst then the flashes.  use to they seem to last all day.  i started taking Paxil and since i've been on it the daytime flashes have quit, but i still get flush at times.  it's mostly my face and neck, but sometimes my chest and arms will feel hot too.  i will be so thankful when all this meno passes.  i'm 33 and have had alot of my symptoms for 6 years now since the tubal.  then i had  a hyster (left both ovaries and tubes) a year ago and it's been all down hill since.

Curious!Does anyone else experience getting extremely hot within minutes of going to bed?  I swear, within 3 or 4 minutes of climbing into bed, all of a sudden I start burning up from the inside out.  I kick the covers off, then my skin gets cold, but insides are still hot.  This goes on ALL night long!  It's my entire body, and I do perspire, although not heavy enough to change pj's--just mostly like where my legs are touching, and between and under my "boosies".  I'm just wondering if this might be something other than "meno" symptoms.  Any ideas?  I hate the thought of going to bed so much that I stay up way too late to avoid it!

Hi,

When I was having hot flashes a lot, it was mainly when I went to bed.    I think it must have something to do with lying down and more blood rushing to the head or something.   It was similar to what you are experiencing with throwing the covers off then getting cold and off and on like this the entire night.

The natural hormones helped all this thank goodness because the insomnia resulting from it made me feel out of it the next day.

There's a comprehensive article in the Educate Your Body  section of the site called What's In A Hot Flash? which will explain what happens during a hot flash and answer other questions about hot flashes/power surges.

There are other valuable articles on the entire Web site if you click on the links or the menu at the top of each page and go to the various sections - Educate Your Body, Newsworthy, Ask The Experts, and interesting polls and quizzes, et al.

I suffer too from hot flashes and night sweats.  It's horrible to wake up several times a night soaked in sweat and burning up!!  I wake up in the mornings so tired I can barely get out of bed and get going.  I have tried an OTC herbal estrogen replacement in the past and it worked for a few months.  Then they started up again.  I went off the herbal for a while and then back on again.  Lately, it hasn't helped much.  HOW LONG DO THESE LAST??
