Planes have hit the Twin Towers in Manhattan, the Pentagon in Washington, DC and another report of a plane hitting the Washington Mall. New York City is on full terrorism alert. It looks as though one the twin tower buildings has collapsed. There's bedlam in the streets.

Both Twin Towers have collapsed.

Airports all over the country have cancelled outgoing flights. All non-essential traffic into or out of Manhattan is being banned -- trains, busses, planes.

I have never seen anything like this in my life. That's all I know at this point. For moments, I can get CBS-TV, but it's gone now. My phone service is off. I can't even get a signal on my cell phone. I can't get any TV channels except some cable stations.

I can't believe what's happening. This is very frightening.

Some say a plane was hijacked by terrorists, these were suicide missions, but all we know at this juncture is that the country, especially New York is in serious danger.

Please pray for everyone's safety. If you hear anything new, please post it on this board.

Twin Tower Catastrophe

In what may be a terrorist attack of immense consequences, two airplanes crashed into New York's World Trade Center this morning.

In tragic and spectacular crashes that rival the disasters in any Hollywood movie, two airplanes appear to have crashed into New York's World Trade Center. The Associated Press is reporting that a commercial airplane may have been hijacked and deliberately crashed into New York's signature skyscraper. Television networks showed extraordinary images of smoke billowing from the twin towers as well as footage of a second plane flying directly into the center of one of the buildings.

CNN is reporting that one of the planes was a commercial airline jet from Boston. The wire services are reporting that that the FBI is investigating reports of a terrorist hijacking of a commercial airliner. Last week, the State Department issued warnings to American citizens at home and abroad about potential terrorist attacks. Wire services are also reporting that the New York metropolitan airports have been closed. The Lincoln Tunnel has been reportedly closed. The New York stock market has halted trading.

In remarks in Sarasota, Florida before he boarded Air Force One for Washington, President Bush said, "Today we had a national tragedy." Two airplanes, President Bush said, crashed into the World Trade Center "in an apparent terrorist attack on our country." President Bush authorized the full resources of the federal government to help New York and to investigate those who may have perpretrated this terrorist act.

EIGHT Planes have been hijacked. Five are still in the air.

Please pray that an end to this violence comes soon. This is the most horrific terrorist attack ever to happen in this country.

Trish, thanks for all the lovely words today  of encouragement and support. (on this thread and the others)  It meant a lot to read your gracious caring and support. Speaking for myself, I'm wrung out tonight.  I've been crying off and on all day for the victims of this terrible, horrible act of violence.  I know in the days to come, it will be a nightmare trying to sort it all out. It is overwhelming as to how this will ever be something we (as a nation) can put behind us!  I'm suppose to fly in a couple of weeks.  I cannot really imagine that now!  Praying for peace --  Praying for courage -- Praying that as unbelievable as this seems now, we will learn something from this horror!God bless!

None of us could ever have truly imagined this nightmare -- this invasion -- this attack on our freedom and the senseless loss of thousands of lives -- the assault on our dignity as the super power of the world. The utter confusion about how little security we have in what we view as a secure country.

It boggles the mind how anyone can live in this world without fear. It is no wonder that epidemic levels of anxiety and depression exist when we are witness to events such as these -- of such violence and the total lack of concern for human life.

I am so unsettled inside. I have not slept. My mind is constantly replaying those surreal images of planes flying into the magnificent Twin Tower skyscrapers of the World Trade Center -- of these mammoth buildings collapsing and falling to the ground in a matter of moments. Images so bizarre, I can't even liken them to anything I've ever seen in a movie.

There is an anger inside of me that wants to see those who masterminded this Armageddon put to their own violent death, so they can feel what the victims must have felt and their grieving families are feeling.

God give our country the strength and the wisdom to get through this horrific nightmare.

In memory of those who perished in this senseless attack; the passengers and the pilots on the United and American Airline flights, the workers in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the innocent bystanders, firefighters, policemen and all those who gave their lives to help in this crisis.

Power Surge sends prayers to the families and friends of those lives were lost due to this heinous and horrific siege on our country.

May God be with all of the families of those who have perished.   May God be with all of us and give us peace.  And give wisdom to this country and its leaders to know how to deal with this.  And I pray for world peace.

Our world is shaken, our minds are confused, our anxiety is high yet our spirits must not falter.  Prayer groups, Reiki Energy Healers, all Americans must join together to help heal ourselves, each other and planet earth.  This work began immediately upon the news reaching us of this travesty.  With all the positive power generated by the good people of this country we can surely survive this act of evil.  Let us continue to pray together and alone for the victims, their families, ourselves and just as importantly our world leaders, keepers of the peace and safety of all of us.  Let them be Divinely guided in the days and weeks to come.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing.

America: The Good Neighbour.

Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record:

"This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts.  None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States.

When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it.

When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped.

The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans.

I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes?

Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles.

You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon-not once, but several times-and safely home again. You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at.

Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here.

When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke.

I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when  someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco  earthquake.

Our neighbours have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is  damned tired of hearing them get kicked around.

They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those."

Stand proud, America!

I would hope that each of you would send this to as many people as you can and emphasize that they should send it to as many of their friends until this letter is sent to every person on the web.

Jenna...

Thank you for your post.  I was just looking for a board to place this on, myself.  It is so moving.  I hope eveyone gets to read it.  'Cause we all know how important those wonderful Canadians are to Americans.  As are the English and Australians and Germans and Italians and Jordaneans and Israelis (Happy New Year!) and Indonesians and Japanese and all the other great nations and people who have sent words of condolence to us.

Which brings me to this thought....

My hubby applied for a job today where the general manager is an Afgani-American.  This man told my husband his nationality and asked him if he would take offense at working for an Afgani.  My husband  said no.  The man then settled back in his chair and started to cry.

May God please protect those that would be persecuted for the color of their skin or the name of their religion.  We Americans have fought this battle for too long, and with such horrible carnage, to come this way again.

God bless all of us...
