I had a really good coulpe of months but now with the holidays and back to teaching i have had one anxiety problem after the next.  My ne w thing or horror is weird sensations with my eyes. I seem to have floaters in my eyes. Has anyone else gotten this????? I have had my eyes feel like they are darteing all over and very sensitive to lights and colors but lately i have been getting floaters in my eyes. I start to get scared and the panic happens. HELP!!!!!

I have had eye floaters for many years. They are very disconcerting. The are so disconcerting that there is actually and online support group for people who have them. I have had them since I was in my late 20's. The doctors say that they are particles floating around in the watery part of the eye or something like that. I have questioned many optometrists over the years about them and can never get a straight answer as to why some people get so many. As always, I am told they are harmless. This past summer I got a new kind. It was kind of a shimmery thing that appeared near the edge of my visual field. I was so full of anxiety over it. I thought I had something horrible. I read some stuff on the floater support page and, apparently, I am not the only one who has ever seen this. Another medical mystery. Maybe it has something to do with our hormones. I don't think I'll ever know. Hope in the past few years, you have learned to live with them without the panic. I sympathize! I read that people with anxiety often are very light sensitive. I have begun meditating and it seems to have helped with this, also getting good quality sleep--ha,ha. Lisa

Lisa, it is so weird that you posted this because I just went to the ophthalmologist yesterday for the same thing! I have floaters too. Let me explain what they are: as we age, the vitreous (jelly) part of the eye turns to liquid. Some of the gel remains and those are the floaters. They are harmless. I also have the shimmering around the periphery of my eyes in dim lights, especially in the morning. I described it to the doctor as a flickering. It is very disconcerting, I know, but he examined my eyes and they are normal. I've had this for five years, so I guess it's not fatal! You should probably get your eyes checked out just to make sure you don't have a tear in your retina, but I wouldn't worry about this, as I think it comes with (ugh) age! Feel free to send me a private message, if you'd like. I know how upsetting this can be! Hugs, Meryl

P.S. I was wondering if this could be the eight hours a day I spend on the computer and the lack of sleep!

LOL Meryl with the computer and lack of sleep thing! I've often wondered that myself~ ! Count me in on the floaters in the eyes. Have had them for years, and notice them more since peri. Also sensitivity to lights, MANY vision changes. Many changes PERIOD! LOL!! HUGS! Kleeo

Hi there, I started getting the floaters when I was in my late 20's. I remember when I had them checked out by an opthamologist and he told me they come with aging. I said, "but I'm only 29!" He just shrugged and went on. Because I am very nearsighted, I have to have my eyes checked every year. They always tell me my eyes are fine, floaters and all, but sometime my anxiety makes me worry! Lately, though, I have had other issues that have taken my mind off my eyes. It's always something!! My eyes are excruciatingly sensitive to light. I have to wear sun glasses even on overcast days. The other morning I drove my daughter to school and was almost home when I realized that I did it without my sunglasses. I just read this one theory on anxiety and light sensivitivity. Adrenaline makes the pupils dilate so that more light can enter the eye making the eye sensitive. I think that there are probably lots of reasons for light sensitivity, though, as not everyone who has it has anxiety. Hey, maybe all my meditation is paying off! I definitely think my vision and floaters are bad when I don't get enough sleep. I've never been on my computer 8 hours though!!! I have a three year old who keeps my visits short, but sweet. Lisa

smile.gif Yep, I've had them off and on for decades. Back in my 20s the doctor said it was from sudden weight loss huh.gif as if? Then they came back in my 30s, when I did OptiFast and that was a sudden weight loss...inversion tables or boots also shake them loose so you see them; they are floaters afterall....I do not have them now but I'm guessing I will agin at some point rolleyes.gif
