Lately, when I wear eye liner and shadow, by the end of the day, my eyes start to bother me. I'm sensitive to alot of chemicals and most eye makeup removers bother me, so I use a natural cream to remove it. I don't know if it's the wearing of it or the removal of the makeup that is doing this. But I sure look alot better with eye liner on.  Does anyone use natural eye makeups and makeup removers? Also, my eyes are very dry.

CMGATORS,

My eye doctor told me that your eyes dry out as you get older, just like the rest of your body.   Sad isn't it?  Makes you feel like a potato chip.  I also find that my eyes sting when I put makeup on.   I only use mascara on my eyes.   I am trying out different brands of mascara to see if that will help.  Sometimes your body just decides it needs a change.  Also, do you use a computer a lot?  I find my eyes burn if I look at the screen too long without blinking or looking away.  I have stopped wearing hard contact lenses also at the recommendation/order of my eye doctor.

Sorry I don't have any real solutions for you.  I do hear you though. I'm sure someone else will have the same experience and help you out.

Hang in there.

What do you use to take off your mascara? How I take it off can iritate my eyes.

I found this same thing that I took for additional allergies at this time.   I switched my liner to a pencil type and have gotten myself used to wearing less (even at work).   I guess if the world can't take us as we are at this age,  they won't ever be able to (their loss!) and the same is true for me.   I need to accept myself, as I am, now.   I experimented with the make-up remover also, but it was the make-up for me.   (Besides, I wear less make-up then I don't need as much remover.)

I used to use lots of eye makeup and really enjoyed using it but somehwere in the 40s it began to irritate my eyes a lot and I developed eye infections!  So I had to stop wearing it.  Now in the 50s I'm thinking of trying again, just a little bit, maybe some brown mascara, this is just one little thing that happens among so many changes, any older women out there who stopped eyemake and then came back to it?

Mindy,

I am very sensitive to chemicals also.   I tried using Mary Kay and bought the whole line and got swollen eyelids and headaches.

Now I just use Neutrogena products...which help somewhat.   I don't use mascara except when I dress up.   I don't even use liner at all.

These days I am experimenting with no foundation but a sunscreen--then use eye shadow and pencil for eyebrows and some color on the cheeks and lips.

I guess for me as I age I wear less makeup as I don't want to feel like I have dirt on my face and I accept not having to be all dressed up all the time.    I like clean and shiny hair and natural makeup.    At least I feel I have a choice now...

I don't put any kind of cream on my face at night but use a good moisturizer with sunscreen during the day.

I think perfumed products are the worse for me as they make me headachy and spacy.    I look for no fragrance as the main thing when buying cosmetics.

It is not easy to look less attractive but it is good to feel better.   It's like living from the inside out...smile.gif

Sometimes it's a hard choice. Do I look better(and have irritated eyes) or do I feel better, but not be happy with the way I look.  I know how we feel about ourselves affects our immune system, so I think in the long run we need to feel good about how we look.  There must be a happy medium. I think I'm going to try some of your suggestions and stop the eyeliner and wear eye shadow, blush and lipstick.    Personally. I prefer to wear no makeup at all, but when I go out I feel better with some on. Who knows? Sometimes I feel like we're all brainwashed by the media into thinking we need all this stuff!

I agree about the media and for years I wore no make-up except moisturiser/sunscreen, I had a benign skin cancer, but now I'm experimenting with paleish lipstick and light relecting foundation, still find eyeshadow can be irritating, also as you mature make-up doesn,t stay on like it used to  I wish I could find a lipstick that lasted more than 10mins! Face powder I think is a no no, it can settle in any fine  lines.  I wear glasses for reading which magnifies the eye area making eye make-up look too much.

I'm using Neutrogena Fresh Foaming cleanser.  It washes off mascara as well as regular face makeup.  If you like to wash your face it's good.  Very mild.  It's soap and alcohol free and doesn't sting your eyes.

There are two or three companies who are making lipstick which is guaranteed to stay on for hours.  I haven't tried them yet.  There is a gloss wand which leads me to believe the product is dry and you will need to put it on to prevent your lips drying out.  Don't quote me.  It's only a guess.  They are available in the local drug stores.  I haven't checked the dept stores yet.

I am also trying mineral makeup by Bare Escentuals and Mohave magic.  They are good for color/blush.  Mohave magic can be used on eyes and lips as well.  It's a powder.  If you use it correctly, (and in small doses) it doesn't look like makeup, which is what I like.

I always use lots of moisturizer, but don't put makeup on unless I'm  leaving the house.  I won't use liquid foundation any more either.  But you are correct.  We need to feel that we look good.  I hate to feel that I look washed out.  I'm quite pale.  I also think people treat you differently if you don't look "together". smile.gif

I find anti-allergic products just great, but I'm always having to re touch-up lipstick, because it never stays on.  I don't know about the media, but I feel better when I'm made up, but with a natural look - to me it's the same as dressing up - makes you feel good!!!Barbiexxxxxxxx
