I have a rash under my arms that itches.  I read somewhere that a rash under your arms was a symptom of menopause.  Does anyone know anything about this and what to do for it.

Hi Claire -I don't know about an underarm rash being a symptom of menopause.  But I have some thoughts -- Have you changed your deodorant lately?  Try using an unscented one.  Or better yet, try one from the health food store - one that has fewer chemicals.  Also, don't put deodorant on right after shaving.  Shave the night before, then use deodorant in the morning.- Have you changed your laundry detergent?  Some detergents can cause allergic reactions.- Are you wearing new clothing lately?  Wash your clothing before you wear it, and don't wear many synthetics - stick to natural fibers.

Hope these help.  You might want to see a dermatologist and maybe he/she can prescribe something for that rash.Good luck!

Could be razor burn that's turned into more (don't freak, but it easily becomes a fungal infection, a pharmacist told me about that!).  Or folliculitis - inflammation of hair follicles, or ingrown hairs.  Or an allergic reaction - a lot of people are/become sensitive to the coatings they use on razor blades, esp. nickel, even the scents in deodorants - try one that says "fragrance free", which is different from "unscented", or try using Caldesene baby powder, it's antibacterial and works on underarm odor.  And I've recently read many women are wise to skip the dual-blade razors, because they shave TOO close, which can somehow cause ingrown hairs.  If the rash is red and has flakey skin, try using hydrocortisone, tea tree oil, or calendula.  There's also an after-shave product for women called "Tend Skin", it's pricey and hard to find, try Merle Norman, it can help prevent the rash, if it's shaving-related.  If it really persists, it might be you need a prescription, like Lotrisone, to knock it - if it manages to turn to fungus, it can be very hard to knock.  (Obviously, you can tell I share this little annoying problem!)

Thanks, for your thoughts.  It could be a fungus.  I am going to the doctor as soon as possible,  However it did go away and come back.  I haven't worn deodorant in a while, haven't changed soap or detergents and generally wear cotton clothing and I am fit to be tied especially in the morning.  thanks for you  thoughts.
