All too often we ignore our breasts - find ourselves saying, "Oh, I'll have my breasts examined next time I go for a Pap smear." Right? How often do we put off going for that Pap smear? Many recoil at the thought of setting our legs up in those stirrups and having our breasts squeezed and smashed during a mammogram. How many of us really perform BSE [breast self-examination] on a regular basis? Let's talk about breasts! We need to be concerned with breast health. During and after menopause, breast health becomes an even greater concern.....Continue Reading the article

Learn  Breast Self Exam

Very true ,Dearest. I overlook my breast even though they have gotten much bigger and i can hardly  look over them ,heehee. Just a little joke there  get it ?Actually , I do a self exam at least once a month. I have a slip to have a mammogram done , but I am waiting to clear my head from all the other tests I've been through. If there was a history of it in my family it would be more of an incentive, but I admit to being very lax with it. Been trying to get myself to go, but I am sooooooo tired of tests right now. I hope to do it some time next month, though. Maybe I'll put a reminder on my fridge."HAVE BREAST SQUISHED IN JULY" -heehee

Jeanne,

I understand.   I spent so much time going to doctors about meno and now they want to do normal blood work, cholesterol, stress test etc.   Going to the doctor can become a part time job....then keeping up with insurance...and fighting them sometimes.

I guess this kind of checkup on ourselves is necessary but I cannot find lumps anyway I have such dense breasts.

How can you overlook the breasts as they have become pendulous things instead of perky ones??? LOL!

It is good advice.

I've always thought it'd be smart if we'd schedule our mammograms with a friend, both go at once - you'd encourage each other to do it, remind each other when it's time, and you'd have a friend along just in case you ever get bad news.  I haven't done it like this, but I think it sounds good.

Oh, my Dearest!! Have you been living with me and checking up on me?? Were you a house guest for the wedding and I didn't realize it?? There were so many people here, it could have happened.

Anyway, I do self exams periodically, but not everymonth like I used to. I used to do it with the end of my period every month, but being regular is a thing of the past. So, the regular breast exams are a thing of the past too. I must make a date with myself to do it the first of every month or so.

I also have not scheduled a pap smear because I never know when I am getting my period. I want go at the right time of the month but I don't know when that is anymore. Then, I have to wait weeks, even months to get an appointment.

I guess, no more excuses like, I will wait until I lose  5 lbs. Time to just make an appointment. Time to remember to take care of me.

So, thanks for the reminder...sometimes we need a kick in the booty to do things for us. smile.gif

Hi Ladies its me GG

Right now, as alot of you know I'm with out medical insurance(due to a divorce), until November of this year.  Hopefully my partner can add me on his coverage under domestic partner.  Due to no coverage I missed my last Nov. mamo.  I will be late but will definitely do it this Nov.  I do my self exam every month on the day that would be my birthday.  So for me thats the 1st of every month.  Easy to remember that way.

I have had a mamogram every year since 1987,(with the exception of this past Nov.) since I'm at risk, due to my mother having gone through a double mascectomy (sp).
