I know this is an unusual topic for here, but please if any of you wise ladies could offer any suggestions.

My Daughter started school this september She is 4 and a half, and keeps having this reccuring problem. And i,m stuck as to what to do next, have done star chart, have had words with teacher who is fantastic and I,m now feeling so upset for her.

Her teacher has said to her just go don,t put your hand up and still she wets her pants. She is a very bright little girl I don,t know if I,m finding it more of a problem than she is,but just don,t want her to start getting name called because of this.

Do I just start ignoring it?

I know in the great scheme of things it is trivial, but just wondered if any of you ladies have had this same problem and how did you deal with it.

Thanks for reading

Many thanks

First and foremost, I would be sure and have her checked out medically. It is not uncommon for girls (even little ones) to have a urinary infection and have no pain associated with it. If she checks out medically, then I would talk to the school counselor as it can be a sign of stress/fear in little ones. I was a teacher of young children for years and had this happen from time to time with little ones - far more common in girls than boys because of how we're built anatomically. A medical check up is essential. Take care, lots of hugs, Kathleen

Is it normal there for her to start school that young? Is she a shy child? I was and I hated to raise my hand and draw attention to myself.

Thanks Kathleent,

She had an ultrasound last year,as had uti,but everything was ok,we have no problem at home with wet pants, which makes me think stress/fear at school.Although she does tend to get deep into whatever she is doing
and I do have to remind her to go when I see her jiggling around
She doesn,t seem distressed at all by these accidents, which makes me think wetting pants is the easier option for her.

I try and gently chat about it,as want to help, yet don,t want to make it an even bigger issue by going on all the time.

School doesn,t have a counselor, but a nurse goes in occassionaly, will probably speak with her soon.

Thankyou for replying and your good advice appreciate it

Kath

and Fried thankyou also, yes she is a little on the shy side, yet her teacher had only just said how much more confident Millie had gotten this term.
When she was at nursery never had this problem.

We are UK and 4-5 is normal age to start school it depends on local authority as to when they start, some schools only do one intake per year.

Yes I think it is too young, long days for them.

Thankyou for replying very grateful

If you have ruled out a uti I would suggest putting her in pull ups during school hours. It could simply be the stress around her that school is causing. I would NOT dwell on this. It will pass.

I have considered pull ups ladybugs.

Oooh I,m trying not too dwell on it, alot of that depends what part of my cycle I,m in though.

my son wasnt fully potty trained till he was 5 .. you know sometimes they are just later than others. if the teacher can have her go at regular intervals that might help .. you know right before and after lunch, at recess a few more times a day.

Hi Kath

It is a worry (for the parent). If you are happy that she hasn't got a UTI I would try not to worry too much - but I do appreciate it is very hard not to.

As you know I work in a school - and see this frequently, particularly with little girls. Depending on how many times a day it is happening, we normally take the child - say every hour - to the toilet even if they say they don't want to go.

It is hard for you, but this phase doesn't normally last very long. And please be assured that it is very rare that any other child notices what has happened. They are normally too busy playing etc.

I too agree - and I think we have spoken about this before - that 4 years is very young to be starting school. But that is the system here in the UK and I can't say that I completely agree with it.

Hope you are ok. I'll pm you later.

Hugs and don't worry.

Yes Didgens thats a good idea,I just feel like the teachers have a million things to do in their day But will mention this in the morning.
I,m begining to think this is more an issue with something at school as She has no problem whilst home.

Hopefully will get this sorted with all your great advice.

Thankyou ladies much appreciated for taking the time to reply
