I've been posting alot lately about different issues. My loss of appetite, so forth-anxiety, well you know. Now, recently about 2 wks ago I gave up sodas, sugary desserts and sugar in my coffee. I seem to have dropped 5 lbs overnight. I am wondering (actually worrying) is this normal. I don't feel sick, but not necessarliy well. I do have a little more energy but haven't taken advantage of it that much by exercising that much. That may just be laziness.
I think I need to see my GP and get the colonoscopy, just to settle my mind. If he even hints at an AD, I may take him up on it.
I posted something about being a hypochondriac-this stuff is really not to be messed with. Just need a little reassurance. My nerves are doing me in, but to know me-a person wouldn't see that about me. I do good at hiding my 'worries' I guess you could say.
Thank you to all who have helped me along here during this 'change of life'

Really??? All sugar as in things that metabolize to sugar? Like white bread, rice, tortillas, white flour, alcohol??

Sometimes it takes 2-3 weeks to reverse one's metabolism.

Man, I'd be angry too!!

Yep, no bread, sugar, sweets, rice, white flour and I don't drink.

I guess I am only going to lose if I do aerobics to 'burn' off the flab.

I gave up sweets ten years ago and lost 15 pounds in 2 months. I was eating a lOT of sugar, lol -- soda, candy, junk food with sugars in it. I felt terrible for about 2 weeks, then slowly started feeling better.

The weight stayed off until I started eating a very moderate amount of sweets earlier this year, and I gained 5 pounds back. Granted, my hormones are all over the place, and that weight (mainly in my stomach) might be from that.

So, eliminating sugar from my diet really makes a difference for me.

When I gave up processed foods I lost 10bls fairly easily. I'm not sure how long it took but I don't think it was very long. I've also heard that people who drink sugared sodas and give them up drop weight quickly. I drink diet sodas and not very often so this doesn't help me.

Congrats on the loss and on the added energy!

Hello Sencaguns,
When I did my detox diet, which is cutting absolutely all sugars in any form, it took a good 2 weeks for me to start losing weight but suddenly it just dropped suddenly like over night! I would not worry about it. I actually had to stop exercising at the time as I had some issues with my back so it did concern me as well but not for long. If you keep losing too much weight then you should go and talk to your doctor but remember as well that we store estrogen in our fat cells so I think that losing weight too fast or too much may play trick on ours symptoms. I know that it is during my diet that my anxiety started to be out of control. I am fine now but on AD.

Thanks MrsB. You're right, I am going to keep an eye on it. I have anxiety 'triggers' that are just part of my life, so I can almost see how this is happening.

I'm so glad this thread was started as I have also just begun a major detox as I still have huge GI/bowel issues and am at my wits end that my bowels will never be normal ever again...or that there is something awful going on in my gut/colon!

Senecaguns....how much are you cutting out?...is it JUST sugar?......it does seem a lot to drop, as I have been doing this for 3 days and haven't lost anything, although that isn't why I am doing it...I don't need to lose weight......

I am cutting out wheat/gluten/caffeine/dairy/alcohol/red meat and sugar (that is the hardest thing to cut out as I crave something sweet!).

I either have a candida/yeast problem.....intestinal parasites......IBS......or something more sinister like the big......nope, just can't say it.....SEE senecaguns.....you aren't the only one that is a hypochondriac!

Seriously though.....I am wondering what the heck is wrong with me...I try eating the right things to get my bowels moving, but I either have too loose bowel movements in the morning...or I cannot go at all in the afternoon and feel constipated...and I feel like I cannot completely evacuate even if I am able to go in the pm. It makes me wonder where all the food I eat is going (that's why I said parasites!).

I too have anxiety triggers....especailly right now...but have had them worse over the last 5 years, and that is how long I have had this problem.

Caz-Art, I posted on the other thread, hadn't read your reply here. I think my loss was water weight. Last night I had to go 3 seperate times-and something did trigger it, too. I still have an appetite although sketchy at times. As far as what I stopped was sodas and I love my Sun-Drop. Pepsi. Just sodas in general and I don't put sugar in my coffee, just 2% milk-then I only manage to drink half a cup lol miss that stuff.
I don't eat pies or cakes much now.( And red meat, why I don't know I love a good hamburger.) Actually -I think it had something to do my atrophy and that's one of the main reasons I started to give these things up-to see if it would help. It has.
I don't know about the parasites but that is a possiblity, too. Like I say, hope you find some answers.
Hope we both do.
Take care,
Senecaguns

My anti aging specialist started me on pro biotics to sort out my IBS - my bowels have improved greatly. I was also told to stop foods that metabolise into sugar and to avoid dairy products. I lost about half a stone in weight 2 inches off my waist and hips. My face was looking puffy but most of that has now gone. The anxiety has improved through the sugar restriction - I allow myself a couple of squares of high quality dark chocolate and I drink a large bottle of water daily and don't touch alcohol.
I use 5HTP for my anxiety and husband also takes it - he finds it improves his sleeping patterns.

I used to enjoy the occasional beer when around friends, but now I have an aversion to that. Don't drink wine or the strong stuff. Can't tolerate it or handle the morning afters. I don't miss any of those 'side effects'. I was never much of a drinker, for whatever reason. I wish I could relax alittle more and let my hair down more often, but I'm fine with not embibing (SP) wink.gif

hello Senecaguns and Caz Art,
Maybe you know this but my naturopath told me to take lukewarm water with lemon juice (real one that you make) I put about 3 teaspoons and to drink it first thing in the morning. It is a liver cleanser as well it helps with bowel movements.
Mine are weird right now as well for the past few days (I am having bouts of constipation) but I started on AD 3 weeks ago and increased my dosage last week and I am wondering if it is one of the side effect.

Hi Louise......which probiotics did your anti-aging person give you?....I just began on 'Garden of Life's, Primal Defense' ...am on day 3 and I have to increase the amount I take each day to reach 8 a day for 3 months (expensive, but IF it works.....). I am taking them in conjunction with cutting out dairy and all sugars (although I cannot cut out all sugars for 3 months!!) just like you said....am hoping this wakes something up inside my gut and colon to perform normally...but am skeptical.

How long did it take with your regime to get results? How were your bowels before and how are they now? (sorry, but I need graphics!!).

As for the sugar...I managed 4 days this week and then had a lunch party and gorged on some english chocolate biscuits (cookies)!

Hi Caz
I use various pro biotics usually from Holland and Barrett. Before I started I had awful diarrhoea when my period started and constipation the rest of the time - although I do eat bran if I get IBS that was a tip from a Gastroenterologist years ago. Generally my bowels are fine now. I didn't completely stop sugar but I have restricted it very heavily (only plain digestive biscuits two only) actually I have eaten them in days. I got results very quickly - I would say within a month.

I think it is. I also just started a new AD about 3 1/2 weeks ago, while also tapering off a different one. It is one of the side effects. I have never had BM problems but now I am. Anyone try stool softeners? I think I may try the warm water/lemon juice combo.

Caz, Diarrhea can be caused by magnesium too so are you watching the supplements you take?

I take a mag/cal/zinc supplement at night along with a vitamin D3....surely this would not have the effect of diarrhea the next morning?......but then I heard its good to take the mag/cal and d3 at nights!!!

I'm SO confused!

I don't know about the calcium and zinc but magnesium is often used to get things started. It's the magnesium citrate that my doctor gives me before a colonoscopy. Cut it out for a few days and see if you notice a difference.

Wow, I read your post and it sounds a lot like me! I just had a 2 week bout of diarrhea and now have the opposite! it's like I feel my bowels arent completely emptying either. I have to go in the morning, which is new for me. And I am also having bouts of anxiety, which is made worse with all my health anxiety. I got a CT done on my pelvic/abdomen and everything was normal. Did parasite tests, H Pylori tests, Girdari (sp?) tests, blood work, and everything was negative. I am now going in next week for a pelvic and abdominal ultrasound. Had a regular GYN appt checkup and she didn't feel any masses. All my hormone levels came back pretty level, but she thinks i am perimenopause and low in estrogen. And my testosterone was high for my age..at 70. When last year it was low. I am so confused and spent with all this going on. It seems one test after another and one doctor appt after another. I think menopause, perimenopause and the intestines don't mix!!
