Hi my friends,
Thank you all so much for supporting me during the loss of my son in law. My grandson is doing pretty good but being he is only 7.5, the reality of losing his dad to such a horrific event, I don't think he has the mental capability of wrapping his tender mind around it. My daughter is doing better as the days go by but its so hard to see people you love torn apart by deep loss. Yet it's all so much a part of life thats unavoidable. Just as we were gaining our balance back, my fiance who is a police officer got the call that no officer wants to hear. A fellow officer of his was shot in the face while sitting in his patrol car training a rookie officer. This has made media everywhere and today was the fallen officers memorial. I sobbed to see the support and turnout of the community. I have been with my fiance for nearly 6 years and I understand fully the danger of law enforcement. I have done many ride alongs and have witnessed first hand the potential of danger daily. The good news is that just minutes after the memorial, the homicide unit was checking out a lead with a description matching that of the car possibly used in the drive by shooting. Actually, the car drove up on the officers drivers side window and the rookie officer could not even open her door. The suspect rolled down his passanger side window and fired several shots into the police car. The rookie screamed "gun" and ducked down and the Field Training Officer was struck a few times in the face. He died instantly. The vehicle then backed up from the scene and the rookie officer screamed " officer down" and that she needed aid. A man hunt swept our city and leads poured in from all over for days. Then just minutes after the memorial, police went to check out the lead of the car matching that of the possible gunmans vehicle. The police went to the door and aparantly the man came out and would not get on the ground and tried to run and brandished a gun. Police shot him once in the head and once in the stomache. He is in Critical condition. They have also arrested another person of interest tonight. I am so thankful that Police did an incredible job. I pray for this family who are grieving today. He left a wife and two young children. It's been a very strange couple of months for me. I am reaching deeper into my faith than ever before. I wanted to tell all of you here on Powersurge that it's been a priveledge and a blessing to have you ladies here. Your always willing to listen and give good advice and the love and caring that pours through all of you is beyond words. Thank you so very much. God bless this site and the courageous ladies who are always here to listen and respond. xoxoxo Debra

Hi Debra --

I'm so sorry you and yours have been through so much lately. I remember hearing about the officer in the news, but I didn't know the details. Interesting how your perspective changes on something like that. The down officer was a tragedy, but now that I "know" someone who knew him, it makes him more personal, more human, less of just a sad news story.

I'm glad you find Power Surge a comfort to you. I'm sure everyone here hopes and prays that things get better for you soon.

Some people seem to get more than their fair share of challenges and sorrow.

I'm so sorry you and your family are going through such terrible times. I'm encouraged that you seem able to see the glimmer of good that oftentimes comes out of these tragic events.

You are in my prayers. ((((Deb))))

Hi Cindy, Thank you for your comment. Its really creepy to know that there are people out there who are on the edge of criminal insanity daily. Here was a guy who was a cop wanna be and couldn't make the cut. The police profiled him in detail before they ever knew who it was. He had also lost his job recently. I spent a few hours today with my fiance between his normal shift and an off duty shift. The morale has really lifted with the Officers. My nephew in law is also a police officer in the same squad with my fiance. This officer who was murdered did not even get the chance to see his attacker. He just opened fired with a high powered rifle. My time with my fiance is more precious now than ever. This will make us all stronger and wiser in the long run. I pray for comfort and healing for the slain officers family. You make a good point about knowing someone who knew him. I believe if we all knew each other on a more intimate level the crime rate would drop. It's so much easier to cope and look away when we are strangers.
