Full Version: Shaking Like a Leaf ALL DAY

While I often do get those morning shakes, they usually dissipate pretty quickly, today, I've been shaking, inside AND out, ALL DAY LONG. While I had developed a tic that causes my head to shake about 7 years ago (I'm 48), now I'm shaking everywhere, hands, head, my entire being!

WTF? I feel like somebody viewing me from the outside would conclude I'm some kind of mental patient.

My period is not due until sometime on or after the 10th and today is the 4th. I continue to take my little progesterone cream dose from days 12 through day 26 of my cycle. While the cream had previously alleviated nearly all those dreaded PMS and PMDD symptoms previously, what is this new shaking like a leaf crap about?

Yeah, I've got cramps and stuff already, too. And it feels like my uterus is gonna fall out of my vagina.

Do people have to take drugs for this? How do you stop it?

WHEN WILL THIS END?????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I'm getting REALLY pi$$ed about this now and I'm sure that doesn't help.

Somebody please advise. I'm scheduled to see an endocrinologist on 12/15. I am also epileptic, and take 3000 mg Keppra XR everyday to control my seizures (which also went out of control thanks to this perimenopause crap!).

Sorry I sound like such a complaining, whining b***h but, man, enough is enough already!

sicily
Should I stop the progesterone I've been taking for the last 7 or so years?
sicily
Should I stop the progesterone to stop the shaking and tremors?

I don't see the endocrinologist til Dec. 15! I can't do this til then!

Please help.

Thanks.

Dear 'sicily'
Sorry for what you are going through.Am sure it feels worse to you and that people probably do not notice the way you think.
I am not a Doctor but all I know is that when I am very anxious I have the internal shaking plus my hands will shake badly.
The fact that you are an epileptic is causing the tremors to be more severe so hopefully the Endocrinologist will be able to help balance out your Hormones and medication.
And please do not ever think of yourself as a Mental Patient. You are going through a lot and I am praying you will get all the help and answers you need.
Neither are you complaining. You are just telling us like it is and that is what this fantastic Forum is for.
So please continue to Post
God Bless

Sicily,
Hang in there my love. Because of your epilepsy it's probably wise to rule out any problems related to that BUT it could be a peri symptom and the progesterone cream could be the culprit or at least exacerbating it. Because you are in peri all your hormones are playing hide and seek, diping, diving and spluttering around and totally doing a number on you.
Adding progesterone into the mix may have worked initially but is notorious for causing problems further down the track for some of us.

I found this site after googling 'internal trembling' as I developed this symptom after being on a biest and progesterone troche for 22 months. It had me completely baffled and nobody could give me an explanation as to what might be causing it. Along with that I also developed anxiety, nervousness, buzzing, numbness and electric shock type feelings. (I was on no other medication)

Previous to starting the bio's I had been on HRT patches with a synthetic progestin and never had these problems. So, I started doing some research and I discovered progesterone has withdrawal properties similar to benzo's, as they share common receptors. It involves GABA receptor function. My theory was, because of the uneven absorbtion of the hormones and fluctuating blood levels on a daily basis, this was creating a dependance and withdrawal phenomenon.

Also long term adaptions to hormones can cause varying degrees of tolerance and dependance. This can cause changes in the switches between receptors and the way the pituitary, adrenal and other systems inter-relate.

When we go through peri we are effectively 'withdrawing' from all these hormones that have been in our system for some 40 years. Some of us seem to be more sensitive to these changes and therefore we can go through some weird symptoms of withdrawal not unlike someone withdrawing from drugs of abuse. Women can also have similar problems after pregnancy.

Progesterone use can also cause a paradoxical response where it causes the opposite reaction to what it is supposed to. Hence the anxiety, nervous, hyper feeling instead of the calming effect it is supposed to have.

So if you decide to stop the progesterone you should probably try to taper very slowly as you have been on it for a long time. In fact because of your epilepsy and the medication you take it might be a good idea to run this by your Doc.

Anyway, I hope things even out for you, it should all settle down in time.
