Hi Ladies:

Just wondering if this is a pesky meno symptom or something more serious - every morning I meditate for about 20 minutes - while sitting upright on my bed with my back by the wall and legs stretched out - well I have noticed that the past 2 times when I get out of my bed I have a numb butt - or no feeling in my butt - this lasts for a few seconds and then goes away - I was wondering if I was pressing on the sciactive(sp?) nerve or is it a circulatory problem, or is it one of the 34 pesky symptoms of meno - this does not happen all the time and never in the evenings -

I've had that happen, and it's usually the sciatic nerve that got compressed. As long as it goes away quickly, I wouldn't worry about it. Sometimes the whole front of my thigh goes numb if I stand in one place too long. My chiropractor taught me to make a fist and then find a counter top or wall to lean against with my fist against the back of my butt on that same side. You push for 10 seconds and that will help release that nerve.

Oh thank goodness im not the only one...i was in the shop and suddenly my thigh and butt went numb and tingling...i thought it was the skirt i was wearing rubbing against the skin...but ive had it again at home...it was my butt/hip...doesnt stay long but it does give you a fright...oh the joys the joys.
My symptoms seem to move about my body...im too scared to say " what next ? ".

It sound the same as what I have. I suffer with this constantly because I do a lot of walking. It is very common in athletes and is called Piriformis syndrome and mimics sciatica.
There is a muscle in the butt -right in the centre called the Piriformis. In some people it is very close to the sciatic nerve and if it gets tight it starts to irritate the nerve.

An exercise that works well is to sit on the floor with a tennis ball pressed against it and roll around to loosen the muscle. There are lots of other stretches that can be done which are more intense and they do work. If you google the name you will find them described.
