Just thinking....Has anyone else experienced intestional/bowel issues after starting on bios? This could all be coincidence but I am wondering if hormones have anything to do with a resurgence of my ibs. The first time I was affected was directly after the birth of last child. Then off and on throughout peri menopause and then this last bout which will not seem to subside which started about a month after I started bios. I do have a colonoscopy scheduled for next month just to ease my own mind. What do you think...could there be a connection?

I have trouble with my bio-estrogen cream. Everytime i use it, I get acid right away, then bloating and extreme gas...IBS super bad. Just had my colonscopy last week to check things out. I noticed right after my hyster, that I had trouble digesting my food..doc said my motility is off...sure it has to do with the hormone inbalance, but the estrogen
makes it worse. Trying to tolerate it.

What kind of issues exactly? I'm asking because I'm trying to figure out some intestinal/bowel issues myself right now. I was off my BHRT for a month to see if my issues would subside. I've gone back on using a vaginal P cream and oral Estrace. I am using the vag cream every other night and it seems the days after the nights I use it, my bowel issues are pretty bad, not so much on the days after I don't.

My stomach feels pretty good (including my GERD) when I've just used E alone (my bad, I know).

So, for me P doesn't help, E does.

Btw, what does IBS feel like? I understand it's a combination of symptoms?

Oh and I've also had a colonoscopy done about 7 months ago, but the way my mind works I assume they missed something....;-)

besides the acid problem, I have chronic horrible gas, bloating, pain..even without eating..I didnt eat for 3 days and still had all this, so its not from food.
Its listed as a side effect on the estrogen, but i guess it could also be a hormonal inbalance, but im guessing its the estrogen. I tried some other
estrogen and it was 100% worse.

Wow. You sound like me right these days. I'm trying to move my ultrasound appointment so I can go in sooner. I am not happy about what my gut is doing right now.
Unfortunately, I don't think it's hormonal although since I've been post by over a year now, I've felt worse in many respects.

What estrogen did you try that made it worse? Was it a different kind of estrogen or a different delivery method?

IBS sufferers usually have gas, bloating, constipation and/or diarrhea, abdominal pain. I had a bad bout with mine about a month ago and I felt like all my insides were swollen and burning. The nurse practitioner gave me a prescription for Bentyl which is supposed to relax the spasms in the bowel, but I never took it because the symptoms got better. I was supposed to take it before each meal and at bedtime, but I'm already taking so many pills I feel like a maraca.

One word, Progesterone in BHRT is what causing acid reflux and other symptoms, tried and true.

That's funny....I had to read that twice, then I got it!!! Very slow meno brain.....;-)
Well I have all that. My stomach reacts shortly after I eat. I also think my PPI is doing something strange to my stomach. Maybe I've been on them too long?
I just made an appointment with my gastro guy. I hope I don't have to have another colonoscopy!!!!!

Oddly....I was diagnosed with AR/GERD years before I even tried supplemental progesterone. Also, I have come off BHRT to clear my system for a time and continued to have AR symptoms.

I had Gerd issues that cleared up after Progesterone.

Wow ever since starting bio-E (Divigel) I've had major stomach problems, gas ,bloating, upset stomach,I'm now convinced it's the E......I have had Ibs for years, but my ibs comes on strong w/ spasms that are very painful and is usually triggered by certain foods, or stress.

This is different I'm getting bloated and very gassy, i'm going to maybe reduce or take a limited amount every other day to see if this helps, otherwise I will go off this and realize my body does not think this is "natural...lol

Looks like you know everything, glad it helped your GERD, but you are in minority of women that got relief from progesterone, majority has the opposite. tongue.gif

No, I just know that progestoner worked for me. I didn't make a know it all blanket statement.
Cheers

I just hope that anyone who comes here for help like I did,, will NOT consider flat out statements against one treatment or another as the WORD. Everyone is different. Progesterone has helped me and others greatly. We should all share our experiences but be encouraging of what might help instead of trashing certain possible remedies to symptoms.
