Hi,
I usually post in the losing my mind, or depressed, etc. type area's. But I was thinking, maybe if I did more fun stuff, I wouldn't feel like my mind was going, and I might not be so depressed...sooooo, what do you do for fun?
thanks

tina:

What a great question.

I really enjoy reading. I like playing with my son because he makes me laugh from my belly. And of course, playing games online.

Thanks for this thread.

I love the holidays so I'm planning and shopping for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Decorating and giving to other people is what is fun for me. My daughter and I decided to go to the post office this year and pick out a letter to Santa that they get from kids and then buying the things on the list and these are kids who would normal getting nothing or very little so that will be fun.

I've also been watching that new show the middle with Patricia heaton and I laugh through the whole thing.

What a great thread. I seem to spend too much of my time working, or providing for the family. Here's a classic - I'm asleep last night not terribly late, and hubby comes in and asks me to fill up the vaporizor dry.gif . What's up with that????? Whats worse is I got up to do it! cool.gif

Sooo, when not worker, maid or cook - I like to cross stitch, read, garden, go to movies. I used to enjoy Karate so much but the old lady hip is getting to me at the moment.

Looking for other ideas for fun. I need more too!

I like to visit with my kids and play with all the grandkids. There are several TV shows that I really enjoy and I love a good book. The kind that's hard to put down. I like to bake goodies, especially during the holidays. I love to walk when the weather is cool enough. I love to sit outside at night and search the skies for UFO's (Just kidding), but I love the night sky... smile.gif I love photography and taking pictures. I love to bowl, but haven't been in years. I need to go again. smile.gif

I like surfing the web, especially reading Power Surge... smile.gif

Great thread!

I'm a movie fan, so I can always settle down to a good flick for relaxation. I'm also a big reader, but since I read for knowledge rather than escapism, I read books on history, science, philosophy, religion, and I especially like biographies. I love museums and festivals, I keep up with Major League Baseball in the summer, and make sweets for gifts at Christmas. I got a digital camera for Christmas last year, and have been having a ball taking nature pics -- easy to do since I live in the woods. And of course, surfing the web is also fun for me. I've tried crafty stuff -- sculpting, painting, sewing -- but my hands might as well be hooves when it comes to that kind of stuff. I'm no good at it at all.

I agree that if you find something you really enjoy, it will take your mind off the bad stuff, at least for a while. It works for me. Good luck on finding something that rocks your world!

I like to read and surf the internet and spend time with friends and family. I enjoy all things 'ocean' and that includes fishing and swimming and beach stuff.
I am trying to get back to nature and the outdoors-so I enjoy the country, too.

I love to knit, read a great book, drink wine and enjoy great dining experiences,,,not in any special order.

What drains me is the constant needs I seem to have to meet of my children and even at times my husband. I'm teaching them that it's not my job to make sure every morsel of food they eat is something I make for them.

Ive started a new hobby,, making jewelry ,, I like it. I used to love to cook, but that seems to come and go with the hormonal swings . I chaperone my sons band competitions I love that, swimming when I get a chance.

I'm with you Webalina, I LOVE MOVIES, I can stay up all night on weekends watching them ... love old movies, thrillers, psychological dramas, vintage movies ... reading is a passion as well. I am treating myself to a day ALONE at the Royal Ontario Museum in early December, an entire day to stroll around, at my leisure, nobody rushing me, my Mom and I did this every year and I miss it ... and cooking and clearing up the garden before the snow flies. I have always knit since I was 9, but my hands can't take it much anymore, but probably have knit scarves and afghans for every family member and babies! And I adore watching the birds - I make suet cakes for the winter with seeds, raisins and peanut butter in them, have binoculars at every window ... even rescued my grandmother's old cedar "thingamujiggy" with holes cored out of it, to mash in suet and peanut butter, and then it has hooks, and hangs from something so the chickadees and woodpeckers and nuthatches can come and feed in the winter. And I love being in Canada and watching the seasons change and all the wild weather that starts in the Autumn. And cats, I play with little furry beasties and have tents for them, tunnels, heated baskets ... and I love special drinks and snacks too. Gives me an after-work focus !!! Movies, drinks and snacks, feet up and life feels ok. Was never a huge partier or liked big crowds, so don't miss the clubs much, but I do miss dancing to good ol' tunes .... hmmmm. Every now and then we have lots of drinks and have a dance-off contest, it can be anything from tap dancing, to show dancing - with one of us usually thundering off out of the room - since neither of us can tap or show dance, but it is fun trying ....

Susy D. - lucky for you that you live in canada or i might invite myself over!

I am glad I started this thread cause it has given me wonderful idea's. I was hoping it would help me think of fun stuff and it has..especially since when i posted it i couldn't think of anything.

I have thought of a few...I have fun at petsmart, since i like to see the animals there that the customers bring in. I like browsing slowly through the grocery store, with a latte. I like yard sales and flea markets.

I liked to knit last year and thanks to all of you who said that, I will try again. I remember liking to make candles and will give that a good try again also. I also haven't done christmas cookies in years, but think that might be fun also...especially if I can borrow a couple of little kids to do it with.

I have fun going out to dinner, especially with other couples. So, this has given me some good new idea's to try and some old ones to revisit. Hope we get some more idea's...
hugs,

well I have to say when I saw the question I wanted to answer, but got a little nervous since I assumed there would be things listed that would make what entertains me sound pretty boring ..... what did I expect....oh I don't know skydiving, parasailing, amusement parks, traveling, ect.... smile.gif smile.gif but we all seem alot alike. I have never enjoyed big social gatherings or crowded places so anything with has always been wiped off my list. 2 things rank at the tip top for me and that is gardening or putsing in the yard which is seasonal here and drawing and painting...I love creating places/things I see in my mind, places I can escape to, it is a form of meditation for me,........ secondly I love playing nintendo WII with my husband usually every night....we are something to watch I am sure and I also love ceratin games like golfing since the graphics are beautiful and I can imagine I am there with the birds and wind, especially in winter, ......... and I love lifetime movies or watching reruns of three's company or Gillligans Island.........walks in the woods used to rank way up on my list but since my dizziness the enjoyment has been snuffed out of that one for now. HUGS Mikki

I love doing crossword puzzles and playing bejeweled blitz online. I read a lot and believe it or not I have fun doing yard work. I like to "hang out" as the kids would say with a few couples who we are close with----just laughing and having a good time.

In the summer it's definitely the beach. I could sit on a beach 24/7 reading and people watching.

I love bejeweled blitz online also, Donna, and THE BEACH IS MY FAVE!!

I also travel alot on the weekends. Little getaways with hubby, or my girlfriends. Nothing expensive, just short little trips. My son is a golf pro so he gets really great rates at various hotels.

This weekend I'm off with my cousin to the Colorado River! She has a house there so all she had to do was ask!! LOL

tongue.gif Ohhhh, This Made me Smile!!!

Okay, my passion in life is Motorcycles!! I Live to Ride!! I have no words to describe what it is like .. it touches my soul. My most favorite thing I have ever done in life! I've been riding now about 12 years and love every ride. I love the feel of wind in my face and the smell of the air. It so Awsome .. and I have such a kewl bike! Recent, I have not felt up to it, with all the crying, not able to pull myself out of the house, and these horrible feelings I have not been riding like I normally do. But I cannot say enough how riding heals my heart! I live close to the Smoky Mountains, riding in these mountains is spiritual for me!! No matter .. always makes me Smile and feel Better!! Weeeeeee biggrin.gif

I love to watch the sunrise .. such a miracle each day!!
I love movies, like plants, love to cook, enjoy drawing and coloring lol, reading, and love to go for drives. Love to pack a lunch and go to the woods next to a creek. Hearing that water is so soothing!! Watching the wild life .. It's magic!!

Of course, right now I am not doing some of these things because I don't feel up to it .. but these are the things that makes me Happy!!

What a wonderful thread!

And hi, Tinabrul - we're old, old buds, here, but I mean that in a GOOD way. tongue.gif

I'm prone to depression and especially "winter blues," so all of the ideas people have shared are very heartening!

I love going to Christmas craft fairs and seeing what people have made - usually pick up a little stocking stuffer or two. Also, they always have baked goods for sale, yummy! And my FAVORITE: white-elephant tables. Nothing makes me happier than finding little funky vintage things.

I love organizing my clothes, even tho' I don't have many places to wear nice things. laugh.gif Just makes me happy to see everything hanging nicely in the closets, oh, and facing the same direction. biggrin.gif

Love snuggling with my dog, or tossing his toys for him. Love my sweet kitty.

In the summer, I love going on picnics, or even just eating on the porch, where we've set up a little table and chairs.

Love grilling steak outside in the winter, when it's snowing. smile.gif

Love meditating... Studying philosophy... Facebook... Grandchildren... Bagel-egg-and-cheese sandwiches.... Books... Traveling in our RV... The Power-Surge Sisters... Going out to eat with the Hubster... Driving on long country roads... Walking on the beach... Old, old movies... Giggling about something with my grown daughter...

Thanks again, Tina, for starting this thread. I feel much better! happy.gif

Oh wow! This is great, I read about the candle-making and I have to add I love making beeswax candles, and when I lived on my own my cats would curl up on chairs beside me in the kitchen, I would have music on and make them out of sheets, and the smell from warming them up, and the ritual of rolling them and seeing this beautiful pile of candles grow ... the cats purring, the wine flowing ... well I am looking forward to doing it again this winter. Motocycles - funnily enough friends of ours who just turned 50 - are now avid bike riders, and have joined a club (NO, not H*ll's Angels ...) and are having a great time. This is something I couldn't do, I had my days on motorbikes as a teenager passenger, now I would like to drive a Sherman tank the way it is on the roads now!! I also love picnics - all year round, in winter pack up thermoses of hot chocolate laced with tia maria ... snowshoeing is going to be a must this winter now we live back in the country again!!
I used to love crosswords, they are always in the back of my mind, should really get back into doing them again, as it is an important brain excercise!! This is a good thing to focus on and we should always try like H to focus on the good things life holds. This weekend I spent hours outside with Joe, raking leaves and finally putting things away from ONE YEAR AGO...when we moved in. I just moved slowly and I was bound and determined to do it. I feel so good doing that, everything was left piled out back all summer and I couldn't be bothered but organized my gardening shed with all the tools, got everything ready for winter ... and another passion of mine is laundry drying on the line, the smell of your clothes is so fresh I just love it. Growing up my mother had the laundry sent out - we didn't have a washer and dryer or a clothesline, so I have always loved doing laundry and hanging clothes out .... and hate to admit it, I also find ironing very soothing. Not skydiving !!! Ironing ... oh boy I can feel the eyes rolling!! But I find simple pleasures the most rewarding.

I actually LOVE hanging my clothes (and especially sheets) on the line outside, although I haven't done it in 20 years! I used to iron all my husbands work shirts and really enjoyed it. I felt proud and loved seeing him put them on all clean and crisp everyday. Great memories! biggrin.gif
