It's now been 4 straight months for me with no period. Was wondering if anyone else was on the same timetable as me? I'm 55...was always regular, till the last 1 1/2 years or so...Have missed a couple of months here and there, then back to normal for a short bit...all the crazy stuff. But I think this is the longest I've gone with nothing.
Symptoms are hot flashes/day sweats/night sweats, other odd aches and pains but nothing major. PMSy-type stuff. I'd say the hot flashes/night sweats are probably my worse symptom. MAJOR health anxiety...cry alot to myself....insomnia sometimes....
ANYONE ELSE?

I think you and I are very close in our stage of life. I'm also 55 and have been very irregular for the last year and a half. I have gone as much as four months a couple of times without a period. The last time was this summer, then I had one in September and another two weeks ago. I also have many of the same symptoms as you do. Anxiety being the WORST...and bouts of depression and crying. I'm so tired of this and want to be free of the whole thing once and for all!

Maybe we're not too far from the finish line....... biggrin.gif

I'm only 45, but this nightmare started about 2 yrs. ago for me. I actually went 10 months without my period last year, thought I was almost done with this hole menopause thing and then had regular periods for 4 months. Now I haven't had one since July. I cannot believe that women have to experience all of this stuff! I never knew that menopause could be so hard! I've had nightsweats, hotflashes, insomnia, anxiety, panic, depression, weight gain, bloating, aches, pains, a continuous headache since April, etc., etc. Oh, did I mention that I am totally nasty to be around too?? I really don't like myself anymore!

Wow, I knew I'd find a few of you about where I am in this mess! sad.gif This is awful. NO ONE told me it would be like this. My 84 yr old mother, who was on Premarin for 30 yrs following a total hysterectomy, now says "Oh, yes, I remember feeling warm sometimes..very all-consuming". But I NEVER remember that, and I was around 18 then and still at home...that means she was 47 at the time, if that was true. So much for "like mother like daughter", as my hot flashes/sweats didn't really start till this year! Almost 10 years after my mom??
My doctor recommends bioidentical hormones if needed...but only maybe taking them for 2 years at the most. He also suggested waiting till I was at least 6 months without a period, then seeing if I needed them then. I think he was meaning that at 6 months, symptoms would probably be at their peak. DENNI...that makes sense, since you said your symptoms hit hard after 7 months.
My anxiety is bad...I feel like I'm constantly on edge. Every little ache or pain is magnified to me. I obsess about my health.
It just helps to know others around my age are feeling the same things. Hopefully we're ALL almost to the finish line!

The longest I went w/o a period was 9 months and then crap I got one. mad.gif Still dealing with hot flashes, weight gain, acid reflux, sore knees at times and just being a slug in general.

good luck and hang in there

Yes its shocking and you feel like its not going to end once you start the hormones it will ease off, not totally gone but just a little easier.

I haven't had one since March-I was so happy-my old self BUT now I've been ovulating and breasts are sore-I can't believe this! I'm 57-come on already!I should have known it was too good to be true.Sounds like a lot of you get this royal jerk around too.It has to be over some day-right?
loracear06
Oh yes, I forgot to add sore knees! And sore everything else! I'm babysitting my first grandchild for the first time. Just did my first "overnite" with her....OK THIS IS NOT FAIR TO HAVE A DRENCHING NIGHT SWEAT WHILE I'M FEEDING A BABY in the middle of the night! LOL! On one hand I felt like a young mother again...on the other hand when the hot flash/night sweat started, I felt like an old woman...boy, was that a slap in the face! HA!
I'm wondering too, how long will this go on. I was always told menopause was just a time when your periods would just "stop", and you'd get a little warm. WHO STARTED THAT MYTH????????????
And my 84 yr old mother who only went off Premarin 10 years ago, after 30 years on it, still seems to think that she HAD to take those hormones, (she had a total hysterectomy), like she wouldn't survive without them! She can't understand why I'm feeling the way I do..because she never felt that. grrrrrrrrrrrrr

I was .. but then it started sad.gif

Dear 'loracear'
My mother had regular periods and did not experience Menopause till about age 56.I was fully Menopausal at 39 and went onto HRT.I am now 58 and still on them.
Bioidenticals might be worth considering as your symptoms sound quite severe but as your Doctor suggested waiting for six months then probably you will have to wait and see.
Either way I have great sympathy for what you are going through. It is a very tough time so hope the finish line for you and all our sisters is on its way.
All the Best

Elizabeth,
I may end up going on bioidenticals...in fact my doctor let me try the Vivelle Dot patch about 3 years ago..can't remember what my symptoms were then..maybe just the beginning of hot flashes, but so minor, I went off the patch, as it wasn't really needed. Wish I was back on it now! but I'm waiting till I talk to him, probably in a couple of months if all is still the same. I'm not against going on them at all. I think he did tell me though that he would only suggest maybe being on them a couple of years..to get "over the hurdle" is what I'm guessing? Like I said..my worst symptoms are hot flashes/night sweats, but from what I've read on here, mine are minor compared to what others are feelnig! I can deal with those. What I don't like..and I've noticed it just recently...is an almost "sad" feeling...depressed? Just not that much of enthusiasm for much, though I DO things..but I've lost interest in things I used to love..once I'm doing them I'm ok though..its the STARTING to do things that's hard for me. Its a VERY PMS feeling.........
Thank you so much for your support..and I wish the same to you!
Carol

Bwaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaa! Twelve years behind me and I'm STILL having hot flashes, headaches and general malaise. On top of that, my eyesight started going presbyopic (loss of near vision and focus accommodation) about the time I STARTED peri. I quit having a period 3 years ago though. The longest I went without a period was about 8 months.

I have been 21 months period free; I turned 50 in September. The symptoms have changed from when I was in peri, some are still with me, some are new and are quite annoying i.e. hot flashes, aches and pains, fatigue, nausea. I still have migraines but they seem to be less severe than before. More sinus issues now. I don't get the 'dizzies' like I did in peri, but I have brain fog. It's really quite the roller coaster ride for all of us women. I will NEVER believe the woman that says: "It was simple for me, I never even knew I was going through menopause."

It's the journey from hell, and someday hopefully it will be over.
Hugs, Kleeo

For the love of GOD, I hope so! This has been one big, long torture session and I'm only 53. It's been a big chunk of my life spent messed up feeling like junk! What's weird is that my migraines lessened for a year, then they've picked up in frequency again lately. Just when I thought there was some light at the end of the tunnel............

Oops Vaylorie, sorry my quote of your's got messed up in my earlier above post. I don't know what happened????????? and you can't edit out any mistakes.

Ditto for me, the only things different is that I am 47. Don't have health anxiety or cry alot. I am however worried about having a really bad heavy period from not having one. Maybe I won't. I should be so lucky right?
