I'm only 34 so I'm not really in perimenopause yet...although the last couple years I've been noticing my hormones changing more than ever, and I do know my mom had early peri....mid to late 30's. I've posted on here before.
Sometimes I get a choking feeling like someone is pushing on the front of my neck. I do have Hashimoto antibodies but my thyroid has been monitored and after a brief period of being low after the birth of my last child over two years ago, its been totally fine (no meds). Even as recently as last week I've had my neck felt by a dr and they felt nothing swollen or out of order.
My dr thinks its related to asthma, and while its been a bad summer for asthma, I do not feel this is a symptom....wheezing yes, the pushing feeling on my throat, no.
Is this hormonal? I'm up right now posting because I can't sleep because of it!!!! It comes and goes...generally lasts half a day to a day when it happens. Right now I'm at midcycle (ovulating) so...?
Hi there,
I can tell you that when I first started in the shut down process I most definitely suffered a strange feeling in my throat and neck area. I note that many women on here have suffered a similar symptom. I will warn you that doctors are clueless about it. I spent many a sleepless night thinking that it was the start of something terrible.
I think that as we go into hormonal decline the thyroid whether it be healthy or even slightly unbalanced, starts to play up.
The problem has passed thank goodness but there is no doubt that my thyroid has been very stressed throughout this process. At times I had a sort of tight wheeziness like pseudo asthma and other times fixated on my ability to swallow. Just awful and if you try to tell your doctor he will look at you with that,
Oh dear, yet another hysterical female stare........
As you sit alone at night feeling really scared think of me and countless other women on here who have suffered in the same way
, safe in the knowledge that it is temporary and will pass
. Do use the search facility and look up lump in the throat /hoarseness type symptoms.
Take care
XIII
