I'm fighting a bladder infection that was "diagnosed" over the phone Saturday. I think I am on the wrong meds. I was feeling better but yesterday got worse. Doc wants me to finish five day course of meds then check my urine. Last night was BAD with pain, low grade fever and now my lower back hurts. I am diabetic and born with only one kidney. I'm so constipated from all the pain meds that even laxatives are not helping me go (sorry for the graphics) I really really do not feel well but am afraid he is going to tell me that since I was put on antibiotics without a culture that now NOTHING will show up on slides. I can't handle much more of the bladder pain.

I would also be concerned. I was diagnosed with a bladder infection over the phone once (I had been catheterized a few days before so we were 99% sure it was a bladder infection from that) and my knife like pain went away pretty quickly after starting meds. You should have responded to the treatment by now! With one kidney you have to be careful! Can you call another doctor or go to an acute care (walk in) clinic if this doctor won't see you? It sounds like you need more attention.

I would def. call the dr. and let him know you feel worse....you may just need to switch antibiotics. Please don't let it go though....((((hugs))))

what antibiotics are you taking ,,, you can try to ease the pain a little by drinking cranberry juice .. the acid helps kill the bacteria in the bladder ,, but make sure you take all those antibiotics. I remember taking Bactrian for mine.. that works the best.

cranberry juice can make things worse for some people(i'm one of those people).....tons and tons of liquids, like water, gatorade, etc. is best...

Doc is testing my urine. I cant do cranberry. It's like ACID in my bladder!!! thanks for the comfort. He thinks it's a different bug that is not responding also. No news yet. I'll let you know. I WAS on keflex.

I'm sorry you are feeling worse Ladybugs! Has your Dr. given you a new prescription yet? If not, 10 days on Cipro cleared mine up very well recently. You might want to ask him about that one. Also, call your pharmacist and ask if they carry the generic version of PYRIDIUM. It is usually found in the feminine hygiene area and can be bought OTC under a couple of different brand names. I bought one that starts with an "A" as I recall but for the life of me right now I cannot think of the brand name. It had two test strips in the package as well so you can test for bacteria in your urine at home. It will not tell you WHICH bacteria you have of course but it will register if there are any present as well as for blood in urine. Pyridium works immediately to relieve the pain and burning of urination so it will help to make you feel at least a little better right away. Be careful though, because it will turn your urine orange and WILL stain anything that comes into contact with it. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. BTW, if your Dr. does not give you another antibiotic immediately, even if he doesn't have test results back, you should go to an urgent care center or another MD. With one kidney you cannot afford to mess around and there are several broad spectrum antibiotics that will work for UTIs. Keep us posted!
