Hello everyone,

I've been using some new vaginal P cream for a few nights now and am wondering if it's just me.....;-) In the morning when I use the loo and wipe, there is a small amount of it on the TP. Is it supposed to come back out? If it's coming out, how can it do it's job? Does this mean that I'm losing some potency?

Also, I'm finding it quite messy when I'm putting it in. Some goes up, some comes out, some stays in the plunger.

I've just come off of a BHRT purge in order to start fresh with a new combination of E and P (boy, don't recommend that!!!!) and am so hoping that this will work, but the vag cream doesn't appear to be as easy as I'd hoped.

Thanks a bunch!

Cathy, I don't believe it's the P-cream coming out but rather the natural mositure, shall we say. Remember during ovulation when you would get that peak? I think it's similar but obviously not true ovulation. That's only my take on this as I've never aksed my Doc about it.

As for the mess... I don't have any with the Prochieve, it goes in quite well and I tend to linger before removing. Some does stay in the plunger though and from the insert with the directions it says this is normal. I do try to get as much as I can but I don't worry if there is a small amount left.

Do you find you tolerate this better than the prometrium?

Hi Carol,

I emailed my compounding pharm this morning after posting just to get his advice on my question.
What he said was the cream is simply a "vehicle" for the progesterone and for it to come out is perfectly normal. I guess while you're laying down the P does it's thing, and leaves the cream to come out.
He said the composition of the cream is soft and soothing (I thought this was funny), and I guess it is. He also said that many women are dry down there and the cream helps with the dryness.
I was worried about getting the benefits of the P if the cream was coming out and he says I am.

I just find it a bit messy, but so far I am tolerating it much better than the cream, but then again it took quite a while for me to feel badly on it too.

To be safe, I'd say it's a bit too early to tell but I will continue to use it.

Thanks for your input....:-)

That's very interesting... I never thought about it that way but once I read it, it made perfect sense. I know they use a binder for the hormones but never considered the two as separate. I'm so glad you called and asked.

I do hope you find you tolerate this better.. I'll kee my fingers crossed for you.

Hi Carol,

Quick and weird question.....;-) I have a physical exam coming up on Tuesday which will include the always fun, internal exam!
Should I use the vag P the night before? If I do, I expect it will be messy to say the least. All that cream up there might interfere with a smear also, no?

Thanks once again!

C, I think if it were me, I'd forgo usinging it the night before. I'd just wait till the next night. Acutally with Prochieve, I only use it every other night anyway. I think that is what I read in the insert and my doctor didn't really give me any instructions. I don't think she had ever used it for menopause so may have assumed I knew since it was me asking for it. Which vag P are you using? I'm open to changing especially if I can find a generic one.

Hi and thanks for your reply. I think for my doctor's sake, I will not use the P cream tomorrow night....;-)
I am using a compounded vag cream. It's $70 (CDN) for approximately 1 1/2 months supply. We have a drug plan that covers 50% of that. Thankfully, otherwise all of these compounded hormones could put us in the poor house!
I just switched back to Estrace which is bioidentical but not compounded and my plan pays for even more than 50% before I even pay for it....but more importantly, I like it better than the transdermal gel or cream.
What does Prochieve cost?

Again, thanks a bunch.

Prochieve is probably about the same. $50 for a months supply but my insurance won't pay for any of it but I only use it every othere month so for me it's only $25. I use the compounded testosterone and it's $37 a month, again insurance doesn't pay for it and then the estrace, which insurance does pay for. So not really bad but when you start adding in the vitamin supplements, face creams and hair dye you begin to realize how expensive it is to be an old lady. biggrin.gif mad.gif ohmy.gif

Hope tomorrow goes well for you...
