I originally stopped having a period at 52, it came back in January at age 54. I got all of the appropriate tests to rule out cancer, but I have been experiencing the worse case of acne. Has anyone experience this? Will this end naturally, or will I have this rest of my life, I am so embarrassed. I have tried antibiotics, and retin-a and different face washes but it persists. I do not want to do hormones or accutane, but hope to get some reassurance that this will go away. Any advice?
Did your period just come back just once or have you been cycling ever since? I would think that the acne would go when the hormones go. Acne is often related to testosterone. Although it doesn't necessarily mean that you have high testosterone, it could just be that your skin is more sensitive to it. Have you had your testosterone levels done? Maybe after being without hormones for a couple of years having levels go up a little might have have triggered the acne the way it does in adolescence. Anyhow, I am no expert, just guessing here. A good person to read on hormonally triggered acne is Geoffrey Redmond "It's Your Hormones". He also has a website
