Oh boy do I now how this feels. All that started about three or four years ago. I have to say that while it is AWEFUL is does get better. I have learned and am still learning how to cope with it. It still happens sometimes but knowing what is going on with these surges takes some of the freaking out away. So sorry you are going through this. Keep visiting as there are so many wonderful people in here. Reading what others are experiencing helps and lets you know you are not alone through all this.

Oh, yes, I have also experienced these attacks for the last several years. Twice I went to urgent care because I thought I must be having a heart attack or something. I even spent a year in therapy for panic disorder, before I finally put two and two together and realized it was peri.

It is just so hard to talk yourself out of the panic, because even if in the past "it" was nothing, you get scared that you'll overlook something that really is serious. I have been on Paxil for two years now and that had really helped. Then it kind of ramped up again in March, when I had my first period since the previous August.

I try to take nice slow deep breaths. It has also really helped to eliminate caffeine.

It seems like every day there is something new to fight off.

Ohhhh yeahhhh....I know the feelings well. Ended up in the emergency room with my first attack. I got dizzy, my heart started pounding, I started trembling, I got nauseous, I began sweating, and my legs got so weak, they almost couldn't hold me up. I immediately thought I was dying. Have had these for YEARS. Most of the attacks I've had weren't quite as bad as the first one -- although I've had quite a few really bad ones. I got to where I was having them every day. Then when I ending up being admitted to the hospital with chest pains, the doctor decided I needed some help, and put me on Effexor XR. Works like a charm. I still have small attacks occasionally, but nothing like before.

Oh boy do I know what you all are talking about!~~~I get the "aura" and know a hot flash is on the way. I have a feeling of "oh no, here it comes" and then it comes. Sometimes it's not too bad but sometimes I feel as if I should go to the emergency room. (I shouldn't think I'm having a heart attack and back in April I had an echo cardiogram stress test and then a Holter monitor for 24 hours--all which proved fine and normal. BUT the anxiety can rob me of my good sense when I'm having a panic/flash.) You know what I mean...heart beating fast, head feels like a rubber band is around it, heat all over my upper torso and face, and muscle tension. The panic grips me so hard and I have to just keep telling myself that it's only a hot flash and it will end. Sometimes when I think they have ended, about ten minutes later I'll get another hot flash. It is hell and can really put a hitch in my day. They happen worse in the mornings for me. I have given up caffeine, sugar (although I crave it), and take Estroven. I was told to up the B vitamins and the Estroven has it. I am coping better with the panic than I was about five months ago when all of this started. I feel like I'm living my life again, but these hot flashes and anxiety are so unwelcome!

I love this board and it brings me comfort. You all are wonderful smile.gif~~~~XXOO, Beth

I hear you, starting day 8 of my cycle and onwards, until day 21, I am panic central, with all the mental and physical symptoms, as you describing, mainly upon awakening and all the way until 11, then short break, then another one around lunch, and then later in the afternoon.
I was swimming this morning, and it hit me soo bad at the end of my swimming session, I barely made it out of pool, wobbly legs, nausea, tense muscles, shoulder next to ears, sick to my stomach feeling, dizzy and blurry vision, good thing i carry xanax with me, so I took 0.25 and in 15 minutes it all gotten better, so I drove to work, praying on the way it won't hit me again while driving.
I have noticed it happens always before and during the ovulation time, once i am pass day 22, I feel more or less normal.
I been thinking lately, if I need to switch from BZD to AD, reading about different ADs, good to know effexor XR works. if you don't mind to PM me on the AD regimen, I would appreciate your input.
best,
I.
