Full Version: Progesterone to Estradiol Ratio--Anyone know about this number?

I finally had saliva testing done. I've read so many opinions on serum vs. saliva, and I can't decide which is better, so I've done the saliva now. I have had several serum tests for hormones and my estradiol has gone way high, and way low, and all on the same dose of Estrogel.

Here are my saliva results:

E2. 14.4 (i'm told high, but they didn't give range)
Progesterone: 1276 (200-3000) , I'm told this is low

P to E2 ratio: 89 (100-500) low.
Testosterone: 96 (16-55) high

My testosterone has always come back way low in the serum tests, especially the free, so how come now it's high. I did switch to an OTC progesterone cream 2 months before this saliva test so I'm wondering if the cream is making me more E dominant than the Prometrium I took for 12 months? And also does the P cream convert to T? Why would I have high T, I don't feel any libido or energy or anything. I didn't feel any libido when I used 2.5mg of T cream for 8 months either.

A guy I'm working with now that is almost a naturpath, said the above readings are why my thyroid went crazy and why the doses of thyroid i'm taking are still not effective for me.

Waiting to have conference call with the Doctor on the above, but was hoping someone here could give some experience on saliva tests

Thanks

Dear Corky:

I have given you my suggestions in the past and offered to help you from my Pharmacy, but you do not seem to want my help. So I will not advise on this situation, you can see what the Naturopath says? I do know this, the normal ratio's for estrogen/progesterone are listed on the lab test result page, so get a copy of it, and you can then know the numbers.

Pete Hueseman, R.Ph., P.D.

P.S. if you would like our help, here are the links to get started with Bellevue Pharmacy.

Corky:
I can't really respond to saliva tests for hormones..except for cortisol, I believe they are not all that reliable.

TY anyway. I will be getting a call soon from the doctor, I was just curious if anyone knew about these ratios and if they are really valid at all.

Pete, it's not that I don't want to work with you, it's that I haven't been using compounded meds. I have been using Estrogel and Prometrium and then switched to OTC progesterone.
