I just started BHRT with a low dose of Estradiol 1. gm and .25 Testosterone, until my Hormone Test comes back. After abuut the 5th day, It started to itch alot (this is a vaginal cream). Doctor says, no yeast infection but I could be allergic to the base used for the cream. Has anyone had a similar problem, Im so sad as I thought this was going to help me alot, he says there are alternatives but we need to wait for the test to come back.

Dear Bfly36:
This is common that a person might be allergic to the cream base, we see this happen many times a week. We have several cream or gel options to put the hormones in, and I am sure one of them would be non-irritating to you. If you call us to find out the names and uses, please first ask your current pharmacy what they are using for the cream base, so we can avoid that one right away. Many of the women who use us, use the hormones in our Liquigel, which is a water based gel, and non-allergic. Many of our lichened sclerosis patients use this base, and they are typically ultra-sensitive. We have also in the past sent a sample of the base gel or cream to an allergic patient to try with no medicine in it yet, to see if they tolerate it. Samples of 5 to 10 grams sell for $10.00 each. You may also find out that you are allergic to either yam or soy down the road, and you could ask the pharmacist which source he is using for your current cream, yam or soy sourced estradiol and testosterone? Hope this helps, and we would like to work with you in the near future.
Thanks, Pete Hueseman, R.Ph., P.D.
