Hi, i am a 48 year old menstruating married california gal, high FSH and on hypothyroid meds (100 mcg Levoxyl). I feel good except this month I had a 17 day cycle, the period was very typical of my usual period, but how could that be in just 17 days. Did I not ovulate? Is my egg reserve down. This cycle I am on day 18 and the last three nights I have experienced that kind of gassy bloating and slight crampy feeling you get before your period and my face feels kinda hot, but so far not spotting or bleeding, I seem to be holding the line barely, hopefully I will have a normal length period but I don't know. What in the world is going on. Please, anybody chime in here, I am just desperate to understand this. Trista5

Hi trista,

Nice to meet you!

Just wondering if you have been tested for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome? Is your LH also elevated?

If not, then it sounds like you are entering perimenopause.......all your symptoms sound very familiar......although I have the period that goes missing!

I was 31 when my symptoms started so I think for many of us, the typical age for this is a moot point wink.gif

Blood tests will rarely reflect peri......so it is best if you have a good chat to your doc.

The people that tested you for high FSH, are they decent people and healers? You really need a good ear through this......for myself, it has been anything but easy, especially finding good drs. After 4 years of trying to find an answer, I know have a good GP and good gynea.......who try what they can to get me through this. My age certainly worked against me.......so if anyone says "you are too young".......well, they can jump in a lake.

Take care, Trista.......you have come to the right place!! biggrin.gif

Hi Micah, thanks for your fast reply. I do have high LH and FSH and my doctor said I was in perimenopause. I noticed your most recent post "sinking feeling" and some of your symptoms resemble mine. I get right ovary pain and more swelling on this side as well????? Just the oposite of yours. Since my doc raised my thyroid levels I feel really positive and upbeat and have a lot of energy. The only problem is I get a little hypomanic mid cycle, or just before I menstruate. Just really feel like I have a adrenal surge and feel very wound up and irritable and elated, like a hormonal teenager. When this hits about every 2 weeks, I just take a .5 klonopin and lock my self in the bedroom for my protection and my husbands (have a very nice husband), and then I'm fine. I only take a klonopin in a emergency like the one I just described. This bloating must be from low estrogen? What BS this all is. Hope these damn periods end for both of us soon! Trista5

Hi Trista,

Actually according to what I have read, bloating and all associated(fluid retention) is to do with oestrogen dominance.......not that here is too much E but more E than anything else......does that make sense? Have you had HRt discussed with you? It s good that you have good thyroid levels now......I have a goiter and became thyrotoxic after being put on thyroxine.......goodness, I was sick......my TSH is still at the hyper end, but in range......I see my surgeon again in Feb next year......man, thyroids are finnicky little buggers!!

I hear you about the hypomanic phases with irritability.......it was so bad, I was dx Bipolar and spent over a year on lithium and anti-psychotics......until my shrinks worked out that I wasn't getting better......so dx retracted and dx peri about 6 months ago......I am on a disability pension now until all this passes or some HRT starts working......see how we go!

Klonopin is good for those desperate times.......depsite my clean bill of mental health, I still see my shrinks......and fill my prescription for valium!!!

Yes, end of periods would be very, very, very good sweet.......with you on that one wink.gif
