Hi there,

Having been person who comes from a violent history, rage is no stranger to me......

I was dx with some serious mental health issues at 21, and got in much trouble with the law due to my rage......

I was termed as "psychopathic" by my shrinks......and was inclined to agree with them.....

Many years on anti-psychotics, mood stabilisers and antidepressants......yep, scary stuff.....

So I worked and worked on forgiveness, acceptance and removing guilt.

And with peri, it has raised its overwhelming head.......It is only with the skills I have learnt that I have been able to control it

A story.....

1 year ago, I was out with my family walking my dog.....I have a beautiful little chihuahua called Coco.....she is the daughter I never had....

My dog was on a lead.......a couple where walking towards me with their dog......I did not see that the dog was not on a leash......it was a cattle dog.

It went for my dog to attack her.......I moved at the speed of light(hyper-vigilance will do that to you!) and grabbed that dog by the face and "threw" it......screaming at the top of my lungs.......the couple freaked out, the dog ran from in fright......and I lost complete control. I ran after that couple screaming and yelling "put your dog on a leash, you wankers!" and other words I cannot mention here. It was only that they ran in the middle of the road to get away from me that nothing really bad happened......yes, I am particularly and unhealthily protective of my family. I am so glad that nothing really bad happened.

My family were terrified of me.......deep guilt washed over me.......I had to really talk to my son bout it......my partner just looked at me stunned.....I mean he knew of my history, but has never seen me "lose it"........I call these episodes "demon runs".......I used to get so enraged, I would black out.

I rang my shrink, she said "did you hurt them" and I said "No" and she said "So all you came across as is a nutjob" yep.......she is funny, had a good laugh at that.......I love her irreverence.

I rang my endo, he said "Most likely adrenaline spike due to fluctuations. You got angry, but your skills could not kick in as there was other pathology in play.....hence, rage" Thanks doc.

So, rage and I are intimately familiar.......phew, takes alot to control......I say no to things alot......walk away from things alot.......and just try and love it anyway......

Take good care, everyone....

Big hugs,

Michah

Ha! I've got a similar story. I was driving my dog home from the vet, where I just spent $250 I could not afford. In the median of a busy intersection near my house, I saw a panhandler asking drivers for money. He had a dog with him in the median. This is the second time I've seen this guy using his dog for sympathy. I told him politely but firmly once before that this is no place for a dog and it is way too hot out here. This time, I was driving through the intersection in my car. I instantly became ENRAGED, slowed my car down through the intersection and yelled at him like a crazy woman: "GET YOUR DOG OUT OF THE INTERSECTION! This is no place for a dog! etc etc" I was shaking with anger. Another car drove up next to me, rolled down his window and started yelling at ME - "Thanks for holding up traffic! Don't be so judgmental, lady, you don't know that guy's story, blah blah blah," so then I got into a screaming match with THAT guy while driving. I pulled into the bank and was shaking and near tears at the teller window. I was upset about it all day.

I had a great fantasy - I wish I could have gone up to the panhandler with a wad of bills and said, "how much for the dog?" and just kept peeling off bills until he gave in and handed over the dog.

Thankfully, I have not seen the guy with the dog ever since.

I TOTALLY 100% AGREE WITH YOU! IF HE CANNOT CARE FOR HIMSELF THEN HE SURE CANNOT CARE FOR A DOG!!!

I'm sorry, but I disagree on this one. That dog may be the only thing in life he has. It could also be a service dog. Just because it does not wear the identafiable clothing does not mean it's not doing a job. It is hard times people. We have one by Safeway that we have come to know. He is there in a wheelchair with his dog. He has no legs (the man not the dog!). We don't judge. It may be the only way he has to make money. He is incredibly kind and very grateful when we give. We do not know the circumstances that put these people where they are but I do know God is watching how I treat them. They are NO different than us and remember we could end up in their shoes in the blink of an eye in todays economy!

Nice to see that I am not alone ladies....lol.
The last time I went completely ballistic was the afternoon we picked up our "new" second hand car. I was driving it home...had the kids in the backseat with me......coming up on a red light put my foot to the brake and the pedal went right to the floor......heading at this red light and a school zone....all these kids crossing the road. Thinking very quickly slammed up the emergency break and turned off the ignition....the car slowed and came to a stop just beyond the intersection. I was shaking life a leaf and so thankful that I had not run into any of the kids.
I left the car where it sat and got to the payphone.....called the car company and was told that "it must have been something you did....an air block". This was where the rage began. I informed them that I was heading down to their office to get my deposit cheque of $200.00 refunded and only then would I tell them where the car was for their retrieval.
They informed me that they needed to cars location to send a tow truck and I hung up on them. Called my husband who picked me up and headed over to the office.
I arrived and walked up to the first guy I saw and demanded my money back. He just shrugged at me and told me that he did not know where it was. I lost it at that point.......got right into his face and began screaming a line of obscenities that would make a sailor squirm. The man was not of Canadian descent and very stupidly looked over my shoulder at my husband and remarked...............are you ready for this................"DID YOU NOT TEACH YOUR WIFE TO RESPECT MEN". I recall my husband chuckled lightly as I went off on the guy with a rage that was frightening..............I shoved my finger into his chest and "called him on". OMG you should have seen his face. I then stormed outside to the parking lot where prospective customers were roaming and started screaming at the top of my lungs about the cars being "lemons" and the owners being fascist bas*ards......(to this day have no idea what I meant .....lol). The guy ran out the door waving my cheque at me in an effort to shut me up. Moral of the story.....I got my money...........and then took them to the Better Business Bureau. I am sure they spoke about that "crazy Canadian woman" for weeks to come. Hah!!!!

THIS IS GREAT! GOOD FOR YOU! LOL!!!!! so........we're talking about rage, huh? lol. . .. oh man, this is a topic I can relate too ...... I don't necessarily "loose" it all that much, but when I do....oh boy! People that know me, know that. But since peri, forget it! I have done things just like this, ...... oh I can remember so many stories of me flipping out on people, I have to laugh! THE ONE THING I CAN'T STAND IS INCOMPETENCE! UGH! THAT REALLY REALLY GETS ME! So....when you talk about freaking out at the people in McDonalds...........been there, done that! Or the people at the car dealership.....been there, done that! lol ..... no, see, I just can't stand for INCOMPETENCE .... or the "I don't know" answer ........ and that's all over today! It almost seems like everyone is becoming outrightly STUPID! I really don't blame any of you for freaking out, i mean, I think, we expect more!

I've also had my share of getting really ticked off with other drivers! OH BOY! They STOP and GREEN lights, or run through STOP signs, ... drive like they are the ONLY ones on the road, slowing down IN THE LANE while looking for an address!!!!! ..... not signaling,..or coming to a FULL COMPLETE STOP, before making a turn .... oh, this is a good one: dropping off, or picking someone up, RIGHT IN THE LANE of traffic !!! I rem. once, I was driving down the street, and this blue van stopped.....STOPPED, and waited till these two women came out of the house, and got in the van........this was bad enough, but the women weren't even rushing (as if nobody was behind him, and this was a perfectly normal thing to be doing!), AND they were actually putting a baby in the car seat, and TAKING THEIR TIME and TALKING AND LAUGHING!!!!! ... ok, I waited AT FIRST, mainly because I really couldn't believe what I was seeing.........that lasted only a minute or two....at which point, i went balistic, (rightly so!) and began honking the horn like crazy, yelling out the window all sorts of lovely things, which they definately deserved but to which I am not really accustomed to yelling out .... and the IDIOT guy in the drivers seat, had the NERVE to act annoyed, and tried to wave me on, as if I was supposed to go around THEM!!!!!!!!!
HOLY COW! By now, there were many cars piled up behind me, and I could see the person behind me was just as ticked off! I pulled around him, and as I drove by, yelled out some more unpleastries, which they deserved, and the guy gave me this "look" like HE was angry at ME!!!!! WHAT NERVE! They act as if it's their right, as if they are ENTITLED to this! ARE THEY KIDDING? Is THIS where we're headed?!!!!! NO,,,,,see, when you encounter dog poop (my "nice" way of saying it..lol), you have to deal with it!

oh wait........i have another one............yeah, a few years ago, I went with a friend who was looking to buy this one particular house. Now, she had already called the real estate agent, and they had discussed it on the phone, and the real estate agent said she'd meet us there to show her the house. All seemed normal....UNTIL ...... we arrived first, and waited about 5 minutes for her. When she arrived, we all introduced ourselves, and waited for her to show my friend the house. It was at this point, she looked a little confused and on the spot. You see, there was a house two door down, that was also for sale...........now, the two houses were completley different, and had two different addresses, OBVIOUSLY. Keep in mind now, my friend had had an extensive conversation with this woman (the real estate agent) on the phone just prior to meeting her there. I was now becoming annoyed! So...................my friend asked her to show her the house, at which point, this real estate "agent" (who apparently got her license from a craker jack box) decided to tell us she DIDN'T KNOW WHICH HOUSE HER FIRM WAS HANDLING! oh man!!!!!!! By now.......my blood was beginning to boil........INCOMPETENCE! My two sons were with us, and at that time they were in their upper teens, and they could see me getting aggravated, and kind of smiled at each other..lol ... I said to her "you DON'T KNOW which house your firm is handling...didn't my friend just talk to you on the phone about THIS house, and THIS address, and you knew all about it, and said you'd be right over to show her the house???" ..... she looked puzzled, and confused, and stood there, like a deer in headlights! She began to babble on about being sorry, and that yes she had jsut talked to my friend on the phone, but NOW, that she was standing there, didn't really know ! But minutes before, they had just talked about this, and she SUPPOSEDLY knew which house it was!!!! I just started walking away, back to my car, yelling out that she was INCOMPETENT, and ignorant, and who knows what..lol.......AND SHE WAS! My sons basically came along after me, laughing at the whole thing, but they know, when MOM gets mad, watch out...lol .... my friend was just as angry, but she's not the type to say anything.......... we left her standing there, not knowing what to do, and got in our cars and drove off..... I am not necessarily prone to just yelling in the street, that's not me................BUT, I couldn't believe it ..... to this day, whenever we drive by that house, my sons always bring that up, and we all laugh..... they start yelling out things that i said.....and we have a good laugh about it now ........ but, I'm telling you, that was such INCOMPETENCE! So.......I don't blame you for feeling that way. How about the people that wait at the light, so you're stuck there if it's red....and then, they run out to your car, and actually start washing the windshield without asking you! YOu tell them to stop, and they don't!!!!! Then, they have the NERVE to expect you to pay them! Well, they just picked the wrong car! lol ......
I just drive off. Nobody is going to FORCE me to pay for someting I didn't ask for.

But i have noticed, that with peri ,...... so many things make me angry! You try to be aware of that, you try to cope the best you can, you try to find the balance .......... some days you can, some days you can't. dry.gif

At least, i'm in good company! lol smile.gif

I can control myself EXCEPT if anyone tried to harm any of my three dogs. Even if it's just verbal, I go after them. I shudder to think if anyone did anything to harm them physically. The other day I was taking my dogs on a nature trail and some rude bicyclists came slamming by, not bothering to slow down even though it's a public nature trail. I had to get my dogs out of the way fast and as the bicyclists went by, one of them shouted, "Out of the way, stupid dogs!" I went after them screaming until I could no longer see them--they were just dots in the distance. It's a good thing they were on bikes and I was on foot.

That's awful...what jerks! I don't like bikes using the same trails that walkers and runners use. It can be pretty startling to have them coming up behind you at a high rate of speed. In your case, even if they were coming towards you, when they saw a walker with 3 dogs, (which take up a lot of trail space) they should have slowed WAY down when they saw you.

Kind of a different situation but your story reminded me of one time I was running on my country road, and a group of 4 men on bikes were coming up behind me (in the other lane) and one guy said, very loudly, "Hey, let's scare the crap out of her." Wish I could have kicked him over! At least I got a really good run in after that...anger fuels me! ha ha

I feel the most rage when I'm behind the wheel of my car. Tailgaters drive me nuts! I try to ignore them as much as possible. Also, people who won't use their turn signals. Just today, some guy in front of me just stopped on a 55 mph road and turned into a driveway. No signal. mad.gif

Hi runr,

You've inspired me so much on other threads. I still remember your advice when I'm toiling on the treadmill.

I also don't like sharing trails with bicyclists. The experience you had would really make me mad! They ought to watch out; they are more liable in a way because they're on bikes. One guy fell off while going past us; it was nothing to do with us because we got way over to the side, but he still swerved over too far and his front tire went in a trough alongside the path and threw him off. He fell really hard so we stopped to see if he needed help, but he was okay; just shaken up. They should slow down a bit; good grief!

We try and get our dogs out at least once a week for a nice two hour walk/run. I'm working full time so I don't have a lot of opportunities to go out with the dogs and I wish that I did because then they go to sleep in the evening when I want to watch TV! There are a few trails that the bicyclists can't use because they are not paved, and those are so nice and peaceful. We can just go along without always having to rein the dogs in.

I can also relate to traffic! That was really dangerous for the driver to use no turn signal in a 55 mph zone! Then they practically stop completely just to turn. My pet peeve is the ones who cut me off sharply and then brake, so that I have to brake! The tailgaters are horrible; even when I'm going a bit over the limit, I hate it when they get up on my back fender. It's usually a male in some SUV and they have that affliction with their arm on the steering wheel--their arm won't bend so they prop it on the steering wheel like a big log and go by glaring. Feel the love!

CSugar,
Too funny! I especially despise the tailgaters in the HUGE pickup trucks with those creepy grills. (Dodge Rams?) I get this weird, taking-it-too-personal-feeling that they hate me and my little Honda Civic! Are they thinking, "I want to just drive other that little *@$# puddle jumper and be on my way!"

Thanks for the compliment about being an inspiration, wow!
