Hi, I'm new here. I'm 44, and just recently started having some changes. First, i'm moody to the point of rage sometimes. I catch myself getting upset at the least little thing. I also have had terrible bloating lately. I get all the PMS symptoms, but last month my period was scanty, and this month I don't know when and if it will get here. I have felt like I was going to start for about a week now. I sweat alot, have trouble sleeping (nothing new), and OMG the ACNE! It's terrible. I feel like a 16 year old in a 44 year old body. I had a little trouble in the spring, but it got better over the summer, now this. I am on Weight Watchers, but I feel like it's a waste of money. I don't lose, but I don't gain. I feel like crying because i'm so misearble.

Welcome busymom! Sounds like peri to me...i am 45 and started to have a number of peri symptoms that came on it when my period started to get screwy. You will find tons of info on ways to feel better and lots of company here. You might want to visit your GYN too to rule out thyroid issue etc so you are sure what you are dealing with...

There are lots of things to try to help yourself feel better from exercise and herbs to the big guns I'm on rolleyes.gif antidepressants and birth control pills. I find the more I read here, the more I am able to handle this and put it in perspective...

Best,

Sissy

Yep me too

Fabulous, isn't it?

I lost a lot of weight on Cambridge. The weight loss suddenly stopped dead in its tracks - I was on 800 calories per day

Doing a lot of exercise, etc, to try to help things along

We are in the same boat and we just have to find a way through it.

Thanks so much for the responses. I am going to call my gyn next week. I am also going to tell my WW counselor. She may have some suggestions on jumpstarting weight loss. My mom, sister, and grandmother all had to have hysterectomies before the age of 41, so I really don't have them to see a pattern beginning. I have actually been lucky to make it this long without problems. I had a hard time getting pg. with my last child. It finally happened when we had given up at the age of 38. I think it straightened me out for awhile because everything has been normal until now. If I just didn't feel so bloated. That makes me feel so bad.

Hi, busymom....
Sounds like peri to me! Screwy periods were my first symptom, at the age of 43.
I just saw a Menopause counselor and she suggested cutting down on carbohydrates and increasing lean protein in my diet. I've been getting the little belly thing which I've never had before. Try to get calcium rich foods as well. I've found that a brisk walk for 30 minutes or so greatly helps with digestion.

I am new too! And I am 44 until Saturday and started having problems this past year with missed periods, I have only gone 6 weeks without one and feel like I am going to start at any minute. I am so happy to have found this website and know that I am not alone... smile.gif

Hi Sissy,

I am on AD's for a few months now for tinlging in my extremities which cause bad anxiety. I am 39 and my dr. mentioned perimenopause to me. I have some days that it comes back with full force for no reason (which again cause bad anxiety attacks). So I was thinking of asking for bcp. Did you find the addition helped you alot or did you add you AD after taking the bcp. I am just going crazy and trying to think of anything that may help. Thanks alot, Maria

What would constitute "screwy periods"???

With my last child, I started having weird periods including a few months I actually had two full periods in one month. Then had baby number four (a post vasectomy child! haha) and my hormones were totally wacked out during that pregnancy and then the first postpartum year was HORRIBLE hormonal wise.

Anyway since then my periods have been short, like 25-29 days between (before the baby they were generally 34 days apart or so) ...then last month I got freaked out because it was a 31 day period but for an entire week before I felt like I was going to start, the cramps, bloating, everything. And my PMS is very noticeable these days.

I'm only 34 but you'll see in some of my other posts I truly think I am already edging into perimenopause....I think my mom started early as well.
