Hi all, can anyone tell me if bad low back pain can have anything to do with lack of estrogen ?? I have been experiencing low back pain for about two months now and also started a few weeks after that having severe menopausal symptoms: insomnia, hot flashes, night sweating, hair shedding. I am now wondering if the bad back pain can be related ?? I have had many tests for the back such as x-rays, mri, you name it and nothing is coming up. Help. I need information. Thanks. Cat-e
enough
I really don't know if there is a connection. I have had it for years on and off, so I haven't ever put any real thought as to why. maybe it is hormonal though, I am not sure. Sorry I dont' have any better answer. I hope you start to feel better.

I am so right there with you...the night sweats the worse. Can't turn over in bed. Battling since end of June. Had MRI and CT...this last two weeks. MRI said mutliple buldging discs and cyst on right ovary somehow came out of report but doctor didn't agree. CT ordered and showed enlarged uterus, consistent with fibroids, left ovary prominent, no mass, etc. Pain was on right, then back, buttocks, hips, then left side. Two weeks could not even walk, sit, rollover. Now last two days all gone except low dull tiredness aches in back which makes me need to sit down and rest a bit. Seeing OB tomorrow finally. Had been doing pilates through this until last 4 weeks and really felt somewhat better after each session.

Thinking I am reading osterop maybe the cause of some of it. Had done natural progesterone and quit five years ago...maybe I needed to stay on it? Wonder if should have salvia test? So scary and taking forever to figure out. I like to hear form others that have symptoms like this and what they have done.

I too experience body pain now that peri has hit. I find it almost defies description - but if I had to put it into words I'd say I feel like I have fallen off a roof. I bought myself a spinal MRI which showed osteoarthrosis in some vertebrae - but it was likely there for many years without causing me much grief. But now that I am 49 and perimenopausal and also trying to recover from adrenal fatigue and some hypo thyroid issues - I have body pain daily.

This is purely a guess based on what I experience but I'd swear plummeting hormones are the root cause. My period was late this month - and by day 40 I was experiencing insomnia and horrendous back pain. Period finally came and I am able to fall back to sleep if I awaken and the back pain has eased up.

If I over do it physically - I fill with body pain. It is frightening to be in pain for such a long time (over a year for me) but I take comfort in the knowledge that this is likely a hormonal issue, that there are many women experiencing pain at this stage of life because of our hormonal upheaval and that once my bio-chemistry settles down, it should no longer be an issue.

I don't know if there is a real connection with the lack of estrogen. I know that I have it so bad that I could just cry, as in today. I did come to realize that after I had the shot (epideral) spelling? many years ago, when it came time to have my monthly, my lower back was in extreme pain. I have noticed it so much more in the past six months, since starting all this peri stuff. This time around I am experiencing it after having my monthly, which is a new one for me. All my doctor visits have resulted in good comments, so that does help with easing any worry. You aren't alone kiddo, hang in there.
