Hi Ladies,

My doctor put me on Zoloft for anxiety....but I'm not sure about it.

It makes me feel weird & it makes my anxiety worse.

I was on 25 mgs for one week (7days). Then I went on 50mgs for almost a week & it is just ikky.

It makes me feel like I took too many sudafed & makes me more anxious.

This menopause is so nasty.....I'm housebound most of the time cause of how I feel.

I have Ativan as well & I find that it works bettter for me without all the other weird stuff that goes with it.
I don't have to use it as often either.....not until I started the Zoloft that is.

My question is: Would it be ok to just be on Ativan & nothing else?

Does anyone else feel weird taking the Zoloft?

Please ladies.....I so need your input here!!

Thank you so much.

Hi Patty--

I am on Celexa, another SSRI. This is my second time on it--I was on it for a few years in my 30s.

I definitely felt worse before I felt better...more anxious, poor sleep etc. For me, it took six or eight weeks to get full benefit. How you feel at the start is not necessarily how you will feel on it eventually--it is your body getting used to it.

That said, everyone is different and the only way to see if Zoloft is the right choice for you is to give it a fair trial--or call your prescribing doc if you have questions or really can't tolerate how you feel on it as you ramp up....

I think Ativan can be used instead, but most docs want to try antidepressants bc there is less risk of dependence/tolerance when used long term.

Hope you feel better soon!

Hi i am on zoloft 50 mg been on for two years now, But you have to be patient you will feel worse before better, but beleive me if you have patience you will feel so much better. It does take like 6 weeks to go into full effect and you will feel better maybe sooner. It works so well on me i have been off my xanax now for three weeks. Hope it works for you. Terry

Dear 'carebear'
I have been on Prozac 20mgs for quite a few years and it suits me well. However,I do take the occasional Xanax when my anxiety level is high-situational reasons
However, and I am not a Doctor but I feel that to jump from a moderate dose to a higher dose in such a short time maybe the reason your anxiety is high.Usually,it is better to up the dose of any AD very slowly to reach a point where you feel the benefits. This can take up to three months or more
As regards taking Atvian or any other Anti-Anxiety Medicine alone it depends on why you were given the AD to begin with. Were you very depressed or did you feel that Anxiety was the overwhelming symptom. It is true that many people do well on just anti-anxiety medicine but you do need to discuss all this with your prescribing Doctor or Psychiatrist before making a decision.
So please take care of yourself and see your Doctor!
Please keep us posted!

I have been on zoloft 50 mg for 10 years.
Yes, you do feel worse before better. It took about 4 weeks before I felt better, then it was great. I used Ativan in the meantime.

Try to be patient and if you dont feel better in the 4 weeks, call your doctor.
Hugs,
Jeaninne

I had the same experience with Lexapro and I totally agree with stitch. Try to hang in there and don't give up during the adjustment period. Take Xanax or Ativan during that time as your dr. prescribes. I am totally NOT sorry that I finally started on an AD!!!

for those of you on the AD's, did the ativan/xanax override the extra anxiety during the adjustment period?

I tried zoloft on three separate occasions, each time I had those terrible side effects....yes after awhile they calmed down, but for me the zoloft did not address my anxiety and depression and I vowed never to take it again.....and I have not!

Everyone is different I guess, so I would say to sit it out for a few more weeks if you can and then see if you feel better, if not then I would go find a different one.

A friend of mine swears by Remeron.....she said she is so much more happy and has a bunch of energy now too (and she also tried zoloft with the same effects as me).

good luck!

I was prescribed Ativan and yes, it does help tremendously with anxiety.

I have been on Zoloft for about a month. Doctor had started me at 50 mg, but I had a killer migraine so I dropped down to 25 mg, and have had no physical side effects since. My sleep is better, getting more vivid dreams, which seem to be common with AD's. My agitation/rage does seem to be decreasing, but the depression is still hanging around! dry.gif I am going to continue for at least another month and see how it goes.

Hi Elizabeth,

My doctor put me on the Zoloft cause she didn't know what else to do with my menopause nastiness. She said to me I don't know what to do.....what should we do.
I had no idea what to do. All I know is that I am just plain fed up with all this nasty crap. So.....she said we'll try Zoloft......ikky stuff for me.

I'm NOT depressed surprisingly! I do have some anxiety.....but the Ativan was doing great for it. I didn't need it everyday either.
She don't want me on Ativan for a long time.....but she is going to have to change her mind as it works better than anything else & it don't make me feel weird or sleepy.

I went off the Zoloft as I just couldn't stand how it made me feel. I might have hung in a little longer if I had seen all these replies first. In all honesty though....I don't feel like Zoloft is for me. I'm not depressed & my anxiety is not severe.

So....what do you think?

Thank you so much for your reply.

Patty

Thank you ladies for all your replies.

What would you all do if you were in my situation?

Thank you.
