mellow.gif I have been waking up lately, usually within the first hour to 2 hours of falling asleep. I feel shaky, (maybe panic) with a pain in my chest that suddenly goes to my hands, they feel tingley at first then painful, then its gone. This lasts about 1-2 minutes.

I dont sleep well and when this happens it makes me think, oh my sugar is low. I know it is not, but I have this urge to get out of bed and grab something to eat. From a dead sleep, im groggy and I have to get food! This part has recently gotten worse. Almost like Im sleep walking & eating.

About 3 years ago when I first started the change, I got where I didnt sleep. I felt so wound up that sleep was impossible.
The doctor put me on Ambien. I did sleep walk then. I had to stop taking it. It is like my body refused to sleep.

I am sleep some better now, but these attacks have started. Any Ideas? especially has any one had panic attacks with pain like that.

Sounds very menopausal to me but I would always run any chest pain by your doctor, just to be on the safe side. Pain like this is often GERD which seems to strike badly at this time. I suffered a couple of years of weird sleep problems and waking up with a start. Tingling hands were very much a part of the picture. The feeling of impending DOOM and panic was most unpleasant! I kinda felt as if I had 'mini deaths' just as I sank into deep sleep and my body would wake me up with a start. All endocrine dysfunction I think!

At 53 and over two years post I can now sleep better, not quite as well as before all this started, but very bearable.

Do you suffer with backache at all? I sometimes have middle back pain and it goes right through my chest-it is agony. I also get tingling right down my arms and hands. It is definitely back related with me-I have had it since my 30s. An attack always happens at night in bed.

Interestingly my hubby also gets chest pain from his back-he has a slight curvature to his spine as he is tall. He went to his doctor when he was also in is 30s as he was getting dreadful chest pains and he really thought he was having heart attacks.

He had X-rays done and the doctor said it was his spine. He is now 58 and is well apart from the occasional bout of it.

Could be something as simple as that?

Well I never thought about GERD.. Is that the sleep apnea or the acid reflux.

I dont have acid reflux problem.. But this waking up thing is very disturbing. I was thinking heart attack.. so I started taking a aprin (sp?) when it would happen just in case.

When I had my hysterectomy I couldn't take hormones.. so I had to suffer through and use some over the counter help.

I found Remifemine = (black cohosh) and Natural women's soy. I take one of those every morning and night. It took a while to get in my system and build my levels back up. But now at least I dont feel like Im down in a deep dark hole.

I wish I had know that I could have started taking it before my hysterectomy and could have got a head start of getting it in my system. I don't think I would have had the horrible experience after the hysterectomy that I did. I really thought I was dying.

Hi, Yes I do, but mine is related to my hips, when I was pregnant with my first child I rotated my pelvis. By doing exactly what the dr say not to do. Pick up anything larger than what you baby will weigh. I was baby sitting a 3 year old. She fell and I went to scoop her up and my hip shifted. I went to my knees. I was 8 months preg. So I suffered till my son was born. I remember being in the stirrups with a epidural going. I could feel the pain in my hip, but not the labor pains. I finally begged the dr to let me move my leg, that helped so I know it was associated with nerve pain.
Once my son was born, it didnt hurt as bad. So when I got preg. with my second son 3 years later the horrible pain came back when I was about 3-4 months along. A friend talked me into seeing her Chiropractor. He adjusted my hips and that was 27 years go. I have to see my Chiropractor every year sometimes several times a year to get relief. I dont think this panic is associated with my hips, the panic attacks, even though somewhat different started with my hysterectomy.

I did have pain at one time in my back between my shoulder blades. That did cause my chest to hurt. That was by Gallbladder. Once I had it removed that pain went away. The pressure and pain was due to the fact that my gallbladder was full of stones and my dr said it was the size of a good size apple. Much bigger than it should be.
