Will be the big er.....39 (or so my 9 yr old daughter believes!) on Christmas Day.......NOT at all happy about it as hubby will be in Iraq and I have no family here......so miserable just thinking about it!!!..

Oh hum....what's a girl to do......I will just have to make the most of it and celebrate that I am still healthy (in body anyway) and alive!!....as my big sister says (she is 63) if you don't have a birthday you are, well.......you know.....

I have decided that 2010 will be a year of celebrating...each month I will treat myself to something, a massage, a weekend away, a new outfit, teeth whitening...etc.,

Lets celebrate!

Hi ya Shirlann!
Honestly, it's just a number. I'm 55 in a few weeks and while I can't quite figure out how I got here so quickly, the age doesn't bother me. It's my life that's in turmoil right now and my age has nothing to do with it. Oh yes, there's the peri/meno crap but I've had that for a few years now and most women are done with that stuff by now. All I can say is that being 50 (or 51,53, 55, 05 60+!) is WAY better than the alternative! I like Caz's idea...do something nice for yourself every single month. It doesn't have to be big or expensive but just something you enjoy that is just for you. We deserve it don't we? After all those years of putting my husband and children first I finally had a tummy tuck, etc. and LOVE it! (sorry that does fall into the "BIG and EXPENSIVE" catagory) but you get our drift. It's OUR turn!
Take a trip, buy yourself something you've wanted for years if you can afford it, treat yourself to a massage, whatever it is, do it and you'll feel better. If you make yourself happy you'll even look younger. It's a win-win situation!
Happy Birthday early!

I climbed a mountain for mine. My hubby took me to Wales and we climbed Snowdon. It was my way of saying-"I am still young and fit enough to climb a mountain-even though I am 50" laugh.gif
I am 57 now but I am still very fit and I think I could probably still make it. Age is a state of mind and body-not a number!

I had a wonderful year when I turned 50. My husband gave me a beautiful diamond solitare ring. It was also our 25 anniversary a couple of months later, so we went on a cruise. It was a great time in my life. Wish I could do it all over again! smile.gif

I wish I could say the same as the ladies above, but, for me....not so hunky dory. Right when i turned 50 everything turned on me, lol. I started with peri symptoms big time, the health anxiety, irrational thoughts, etc. I instinctively was not thrilled about turning 50, 40 was a cakewalk. I am honestly looking forward to 51, for me, I just think it will be better. I never gave age much of a thought before, but, 50 made me think. It has been an adjustment, but, that's just me. It appears most women as the women posting above have the right attitude. I would say they are the one's to emulate. I wish I had their attitude and maybe I will in time. Enjoy 50, it truly is just a number. I think I just happened to start peri big time right then so my experience is not a positive one. Sorry if I was a bummer, I probably shouldn't have posted. Happy Birthday!!

I turned 50 last July and feel fine about it. Actually... I started saying I was "almost 50" when I was 45 LOL I think it helped soften the blow!!

I feel a sense of freedom and liberation since turning 50! I'm actually even getting good at saying "No!" LOL I try to stay in the moment and not worry too much about the number!!

Thanks ladies! smile.gif Will be taking some of your advice already starting to put myself first for once!!

Find a way to enjoy your year...I looked at it as a special year and to have been lucky to made it that far after looking back at all that has happened to me getting there. I too felt more of a sense of freedom! I was so looking forward to my 50th (last yr), but there was so much intrusion right around my bd that I feel as if I missed it, it was to be a celebration for me and my life, instead I seemed to have been the leaning post for others at the time, so I really did not get to enjoy it.

Make it your special year and day, and make sure the celebration is all about you and the special person that you are!!!! smile.gif
Happy early birthday!!!

I'll turn...er...um...'that age" in May. The idea is truly freaking me out. Luckily most people think I'm in my 30s (no wrinkles to speak of and a fun personality), but it's still scary as you know what. I'm thinking of backing up. I'll be 48 next year, 47 the year after that and so on.

I'm actually of mixed minds about it. I hate the idea of hitting the age that I always associate with polyester house dresses, beauty shop "helmet hair" and The Golden Girls. But at the same time, my 40s have been horrific in terms of life events. So maybe my 50s will be better.

I know ONE thing I'm gonna do. Join AARP. My mom has been a member for years (she's 68) and I had no idea of all the benefits they have, from insurance to travel discounts to shopping discounts....I can't wait to get into it.
