I want to start taking some supplements to help get me through this. My fear is that it will only get worse. I'm 45 and feel so tired, irritable, anxious, scared or any little pain I feel, afraid to go to the Dr., I can't sleep at night.....the list goes on. I read in a magazine some good supplements to take and wanted feedback on whether they do work or not:

Black CoHost: I heard you shouldn't take this for longer then 6 months?????

Probiotics:

Flaxseed:

B-Complex:

Anyone have any thoughts on these? I know you read them in a magazine, but I wanted to hear from people who actually tried them. I really feel like if I can get a head start on by using something, I might head-off any symptoms (or at least make them not as bad) with taking some additional supplements.

I can only speak to the B-Complex. I've been taking it for a few months now and I have noticed a difference in how much energy I have. I started out with just a simple B-Complex but now take the Super complex w/ folic acid and Vit. C. I also take Vit. E 400mg/day, Vit. D3 400mg/day and a multi-vitamin. A word to the wise, take the B-Complex in the AM as it has a tendency to keep some awake at night if taken then. Give it a try and see what happens. If it helps you'll know soon enough and it won't hurt you. My guess is that it will help you feel at least a little better. I found the Vit. E stopped my hot flashes almost completely within a few days of starting it so that was a HUGE plus.

I've never tried the Black Cohosh. I take a Super B-Complex along with Vita C, Vita E (400), Calcium +D, Biotin, OM3 (90% Omega 3) which has helped me TREMENDOUSLY with my emotions, Bio-Identical Progesterone compounded pill, Multi-vita. I eat flaxseed in my berries or yogurt every day, very good for getting fiber and Omega's. I also eat at least a handful of nuts every day, mainly almonds. I drink at least 80 oz. of water every day. Eat lots of salmon, fresh veggies and fruit. Don't eat any sugar or processed foods ever, since last Dec.
Its unbelievable to me that I can do all these right things and STILL am experiencing terrible bloating and water retention/weight gain. I get so frustrated about this, which in turn increases the anxiety and triggers the increased cortisol levels and adds to the midsection.
