MSG. Monosodium glutamate. We've all heard of it, but 99% of you don't realize it's in virtually every packaged food (and in 100% of restaurant food). Please go to www.truthinlabeling.org (or .com). Even the first night I had no msg in my diet, my sleep improved 1000%. There is still improvement, but it's not like that first day. My restless legs syndrome has decreaed. The jerking during sleep has decreased. Tremors decreased (but I still struggle with them 24.7....for years....but sleep disorders have tortured me for just under 9 years). I am off the charts regarding sleep, but I share with you all the internal tremor, buzzing, electricity (as if plugged into an electrical socket), and sleep difficulties/insomnia). Please, someone print out the list of foods that contain msg (or "often" contain msg, go without those foods for even 1-3 days, and then report back ehre what you experienced. Unbelieveable difference for me.

I could be wrong but I remember reading somewhere a while ago that parmasan cheese is one of the highest in msg. During the aging process it makes it's very own!!!

Yes I have found awhile ago after downing half a bag of cheesy diritos(sp) and waking up the next day that I musy be msg sensitive and worse eating at a chinese place in the mall......within an a hour I had such stomach pain I couldn't walk, this went on for 4 hours after.
I try to saty away from the obvious, but it comes under so many diff. names and occurs naturally in some.........interesting ladybugs because I have noticed my symptoms are worse either the next day or shortly after I eat something with P cheese.....there has for sure been a coorelation.....I just the thought it was the food, pizza and spaghetti or I put it on just buttered noodles....I have loved P. cheese since young and just bathe my food in it.....it doesn't say msg so I assumed it was not present. I even avoided eating pizza for awhile since I would have palpitations the next day more than usual and feel like yeck.....you may be onto something for me here as I eat P cheese everyday pretty much. I will look into it. HUGS Mikki

Wow, this is just what I needed to read today. I woke up this morning with horrible shakiness and feeling lightheaded, probably due to feeling anxious because of the shakiness. I started my period yesterday, but haven't felt the shakes like this for a long time. But we had chinese food last night! Also something I haven't had in awhile. Maybe there is a connection. Thanks for the info.

Yes, there is most likely a connection. In fact, probably a strong connection. I doubted how much of a connection there could be. I was shocked that first night since not eating any foods without msg. Am I craving lots of foods that I cannot eat? Not craving, but I wish I could eat other foods. But, overall, my level of hunger has decreased. I can actually for for around 7 hours without being hungry -another downside to MSG is that it makes you hungry. But, the most important thing for me what that my sleep improved. I still struggle, but it's definitely gotten somewhat better. I'd rather be well than eat whatever I want.

Please, as I mentioned earlier, go to that website and print it off before going to the supermarket. Even with low fat and skim milk, msg is created. It's everywhere, just about. But, you'll eventually develop a new system to buy food and create new dishes, and it won't be as difficult as the first couple of weeks. And, you'll probably be feeling better. I was shocked that my restless legs syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder has gotten better. Is it totally gone? No. But, far better. I still have other sleep issues.

I always wondered why I struggled to even fall asleep on days that I went out to restaurants. Now it all makes sense.

Please report back here people with your updates with this.

I always had bad stomach pains and unbelievable thirst after about an hour of eating Chinese with MSG in. I always look at a new chinese restaurant to see if they have MSG before I eat there. Here in Australia they have banned it in the restaurants and at one stage the restaurants advertised MSG free. Parmesan cheese is very high in salt you can taste it, I love it too and only use occasionally otherwise I get too thirsty and it gives me heartburn at night too!

The main thing I take now for tremors is magnesium, it seems to be helping with migraines as well!

Cheers choco

Yes, I've recently started taking magnesium and it seems to help with the shaky/trembly feeling I get, especially around PMS time.

MSG isn't good for a lot of people. I am sensitive to it, so that does make sence.
