Dear PS sisters,
Last night my daughter called me at 1:00am. My former son in law who was just at my home a couple of days ago, had a high speed motorcycle accident and is in critical condition. He hit a tree and shattered his shoulder to the point of the Surgeon needing to amputate it. His spleen ruptured, his lungs crushed and his ribs all broken. His intestines are bruised. He is basically on life support. He has lost 80% of his blood. During surgery, Doctors removed the spleen but he had lost so much blood that he was losing his fight. My daughter and his father and brother were at the hospital and they needed to make a life saving decision to give a blood transfusion. Since my daughter and my son in law were divorced, power of attorney went to his JW father who flatly refused the transfusion. He quoted the Bible verse of Acts 21:25, stating that he could not use any "blood" because the bible is against it. My son in law comes over to my house several times a week, I take care of my grandson who is 7.5 and my son in law is a very talented carpenter. I love him very much and have always had a soft spot for him. Just weeks ago, I told him while he was at my house that no matter the reason for the divorce, he would always be my family and I loved him like a son. Since he is a Builder/contractor, I made phone calls to get him some business. I cannot believe that someone would let their son die because of such foolishness. I am a Christian and my son in law and I have had this conversation before, even before my daughter and he were married, he promised us that his "religion" would never get in the way and that if my grandson needed a blood transfusion, he would give it to him. I am so broken hearted and have been in prayer since last night and at the hospital I was alone with him for about 45 minutes. I told him that I would stand in as his mom until his own mother could get there from Florida. I prayed over him and within minutes, his blood pressure started to stabilise, to the point that the nurses came in and were encouraged enough to take him off of the 3 blood pressure meds that were adding to blood not clotting. Please, keep us in your prayers. He is only 28 and his name is Jordon. I am not here to diss anyones religion. I am only here to save my son in law. The 10 commandments say that "Thou shall not kill"

I wish people would understand that God can use a physician's hand to heal. I also wish people would take to heart the idea of "laying down one's life for a friend". In my mind, giving life-saving blood is a way of laying down your own life for someone....
I will fervently pray that God will heal this young man...and also heal the hearts of those family members who are surrounding him at this time.

Oh my Debra, that must be so frustrating. My heart goes out to you, and I hope your son in law is able to get well without the use of the transfusion.

Prayers coming your and your son in law's way....and yes, the believers that think introducing medical help is not God's way do not understand that God gives His power through the hands of doctors to save people.....

Debra, I am so very sorry about your SIL....how tragic.
I have seen the JWs before with their "no transfusions" before, and honestly I don't understand it myself. I would never allow a member of my family to die, when they could be so easily saved.
I hope your SIL manages to survive his horrendous injuries. Hang in there!! ((HUGS))

Debra, I am so sorry for what you, your daughter, and your precious grandson are going through right now. As Bookworm said, God can use a physician's hand to heal. Who does you SIL's father think gave us all the gift of medicine? I pray that this man will come to his senses and allow his son to receive this life saving treatment. God bless you and your family.

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all of you through such a difficult and heart wrenching time. I'm so sorry this has happened to him. Your son in law sounds like a lovely young man and a loving father to his son. I will pray that that love will give him the strength to fight regardless of the decisions that are made on his behalf. He has you and I know that he knows you are there. It is very difficult when you have opposing religious beliefs and you feel like his parent's aren't doing right by him when they probably feel like they are. (BTW, I don't agree with them) All you can do is surround him with the love you and your family have for him and give it up to God to make the final decision.
Please take care.
