Ok,this is the week before my period is due,(I am on bcp)and I have been having some really bad pms this past week.My breasts have been really sore,I have been very irritable, etc.Well, today my gums are swollen and when I brushed and flossed they bled. They were really sore when I ate today. Is this hormonal?I have read it can affect your gums, and because this happened so quickly I am thinking that is the cause-still it is freaking me out.Anyone else had problems like tis with peri? Thanks and GOD-bless

Thank you so much for your reply.I was starting to think it was just me.I have been trying to take extra good care of my teeth today-but my gums are so sore.I started spotting today,so I am hoping once my period gets here the soreness will go away. Thanks again and GOD-bless

Goodness, I have been having that very same thing for a couple of days. I noticed some soreness when I brushed my teeth. I thought maybe I had bit down hard because I had eaten some peanuts. Maybe it is a peri thing, I just find this amazing that you are experiencing this new, as I am. None the less, you are not alone. My irritability level is sky high right now, not fit to be around anyone. Hang in there kid. huh.gif Belinda

Well,my gums and teeth are bothering me again!!I am just ending my period, and sure enough the pain in my gums and the bleeding came back.I cannot afford the dentist right now,I hate this-it seems as if I get rid of one irritating symptom and another is there to take its place. Thanks for letting me vent.GOD-bless

I too have suffered more with gum disease since surgical menopause, but my dentist says hormones (or lack of) have no bearing on it. I am not sure if I agree because if I don't floss every day it starts very quickly-much more quickly than before
There is only one sure fire way to stop it and that is to brush properly and floss every day (yawn).
It's such a drag isn't it?

Hi everyone.

I wondered if this was a peri thing as well. In the last couple of months my teeth were SO sore. I thought maybe I was grinding them all night coz they would ache. I went to the dentist and he said there was nothing wrong that he could see. I ended up trying a mouth guard from the drug store (one of the self moulding ones, the custom ones are tres' $$) and it has really helped. It was a bit hard to get used to, but now I wear it every night with no probs.

Gotta love peri. dry.gif

I have had swollen gums on the inside and part of the roof of my mouth. I need to schedule my dental appt soon, it's been awhile.
