Well ladies despite everything I was thinking and imagining, my tooth is gone and I lived right through it. I had a panic attack in the dentist chair.

I am having a little pain because I am sore but the extraction went very well. Now if I can keep from getting dry socket, all will be good.

I want to thank everyone who has encouraged me and helped me through this. Big hugs to everyone.

Yipeeeee! You're a better person than I am. I have a broken tooth that should be pulled but I am waaaay too scared. I had a small filling done this summer and had a panic attack in the chair. I know I could never sit for an extraction. Congrats and glad you made it through alright.

i had 2 wisdom teeth pulled at once not too long ago, i was in pain for 7 days , of course you probably know not to smoke (if you do) or drink out of a straw today, no hot or cold liquids , i rinsed my mouth out with very diluted salt water for the first 4 days couldnt get my self to use a tooth brush til then, i think its one of the weidest feelings to have some one just yank/pull out your tooth !!! i shutter when i feel the crunch of the tooth they pull, eeeeeee yuckkkkkkk

Good advice about the straw. My SIL had her molar taken out and they didn't tell her to not drink out a straw and she ended up with dry socket which is beyond painful. Glad you got through the procedure, stitch... I had a bunch of work done on my teeth about 3 years ago and had to keep going back, fixing a chipped tooth in the front, new bridge on bottom teeth that he had to pull out all the old yucky teeth under the old crown, which he kept pumping we with novacaine and it wasn't working, had to file down my top tooth to put the new cap on. It took 3 visits and I was clenching the arms on the chair like it was a life jacket. Oh, plus I got the teeth whitening done and OMG, my teeth hurt so bad after.... apparently most people don't respond quite like I did.... heck they do these on cruise ships according to my dentist. I was like "h#ll no.... never again and especially never while I am on vacation. That hurt worse than all the other stuff and the other stuff s#cked too. Maybe it's the dentist cause 24 years ago I had caps put on my teeth and root canals and it was a breeze, I didn't feel a thing. Getting the shots don't bug me and pulling teeth don't bug me.... drilling.... that bugs me... no visits to the dentist for a while. Hope my teeth are strong, lol. Take care, Mich

Glad that is over for you.

Glad to hear all went well. It's never a pleasant experience going to the dentist anyway and a tooth extraction is right up there on my list of things to avoid but I'm glad you fared so well. I think if we have time to think about things like this our imaginations make things worse than they really are. As for the dry socket, as long as you frequently rinse your mouth with warm salt water you should be ok.

UG .. good to hear .. I go see the endodontist next week,, I am NOT looking forward to it.. I have just had 2 crowns placed and both are now extremely sensitive to cold, so he may have to do a root canal .. AHHHHHHHH ,, anyway ,, knowing you survived Im sure I will. ,, I am terrified of the dentist ,, 2 times ago I had a really bad reaction to the novacain/lidocaine whatevercaine they gave me .. with the vaso constricter I almost passed out,, the dentist now knows she cant use that on me..

I am so glad that it is over!
I am trying to be very careful with every thing I am doing. I am only eating soup right now and the choc shakes my daughter keeps bringing me because I am terrified of getting anything in the hole or knocking out the blood clot, which from understanding is when dry socket occurs. So as long as I can keep the blood clot there during healing I will not get dry socket.

Careful for me is the name of the game. although it is hard when you are a smoker but I am trying. I am brushing carefully twice a day and rinsing my mouth with plain water. So far so good.

Thanks for everything ladies, I would not have made it without all of you.

Being a full-fledged dental phobic, I have resorted to valium when I have anything done besides cleaning...that includes a root canal, an extraction (which took about 2 minutes), and next week, a crown. It helps me to get through necessary procedures which, if not done, will only land me in more trouble teeth wise....

So to you ladies who are paniking in the chair, try the valium route...oh, and some nice soothing music on your IPod and a driver to and from the office....Hubbie is my driver and I call these trips "Driving Miss Crazy" biggrin.gif tongue.gif

THANK YOU LADIES!!!! I could not have done it without you.

oooh, my brother is a denist yet doesn't live around here (darn it!), yet he told me long ago that my mouth/lack of healthy gums, that i may never be able to be fitted with false teeth....(when someday my teeth just all need pulled), my gums have nothing much for a set of falsies would hold onto! urggh!
his advice for me is always the same, always floss! if you feel anything wrong, pain,,, gargle with warm salt water solution, and he also said, the toothpaste i use, they are all the same, no matter what the commercials claim on TV. he swears that flossing is way more important than brushing your teeth..........i am not a flosser... mellow.gif
glad the extraction went well!
i lost my dental insurance when my brother moved out of town! ohmy.gif

boohoo:

I am sorry your brother left. I am not a flosser either. I hate it and it makes my gums sore. But I am trying to learn.
Thanks for your support.
Now I am having to worry about another tooth.
