I'm sorry folks. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but with all the flu scares and other funky viruses going around I really, really wish people would STAY THE H E DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS HOME when they aren't feeling well!! blink.gif

Yes, I know that American work ethic that tells us we must drag our sorry butts to work even when we're at death's door but for pete's sake, use some common sense! Maybe you feel you're strong enough to s u c k it up but you may be working with people who have weak immune systems and underlying health issues who really cannot afford to get sick!
You keep telling me your nauseous, or you sneeze and cough and you use the very same bathroom facilities that the rest of us must use. You touch door handles and computer keyboards and telephones and buttons on the elevator and handrails on the stairways....

Please be courteous and stay home until you're feeling better!! ohmy.gif

I AGREE!!!! Stay home, I know it's hard to make ends meet if you don't work but if everyone ends up sick what good will come of it?
Wash your hands too and sanitize work areas!

True, but you may be working with people who have underlying health issues and they, too, may have money issues or no health coverage. How much sadder is it for them??
Plus, if you do come to work and wind up getting sicker it's going to cost you more in the long run.

I still say, STAY HOME, please!!!

Whenever i have gone on vacation i always take the lysol with me ( heaps of it) and spray everything...i guess this can be the same to try and prevent the flu at work. I wont use anything until its sprayed.

I may have to start myself a "flu fund" so I will have money if I get sick. blink.gif

While it's a lovely thought and most people would if they could...it's not gonna happen! In todays economy people have to work and when you call in sick there are 200 people behind you willing to take your job away from you!

I dont think employers would want their work force to come into work and spread the infection. That would be worse for their business and the economy..otherwise we'll all be dropping like dead flies....... unsure.gif

My work wants us to come in no matter how sick we are. There have been people throwing up while working and were told to stay anyway.

That's just not right. I feel bad for you! sad.gif

A cashier at my local Walmart told me that even if an employee is throwing up, she/he has to stay. One girl finally got to go home but only because she threw up into a waste basket in front of a customer! I asked about pregnant women who throw up due to morning sickness, and was told that management is even less accommodating to them since it's not contagious! That's just so inhumane, IMO.

Another reason I will never shop at Walmart. They are notorious for their poor treatment of employees. I have a relative that works for them and never has a good word to say. He only keeps the job because the economy is so bad right now.

That's how it is at my work also. There are only 6 of us now in an office that use to have 27, but most were laid off. We've been told if we can CRAWL then we need to come in!

Thank God I'm a nurse and work in a hospital. At least THEY understand the concept of NOT infecting your co-workers or patients. We are not encouraged to stay home, it is mandated. If we have a fever, diarrhea, vomiting we have no choice. If we come to work, they will send us home. It's that simple. I don't understand a workplace which does not understand this concept. Leanne, what will your company do when all 6 of you are so sick you can't get out of bed? What lunacy. I feel for all of you who work for people like that. Just remember to wash your hands every chance you get and keep your hands away from your face (eyes, nose and mouth). that will protect you more than you know. Good luck everyone, try to stay well!
TidalWaves
Well, here's the thing.............we are contagious BEFORE we even know we are sick in most cases, so by the time we know we are sick, we have already contaminated others.

If I'm so sick that I cannot get out of the bed and I'm running a fever, then YES, I am staying home.

Health Dept. says that a child should be free of a fever for 24 hours before they can return to school or daycare. You think parents follow that rule? Of course not!!

They give them Tylenol and send them on to school. Happens ALL THE TIME!!

I agree, sick? stay home!!!!!!!!!!!!! No ifs, ands, or buts.

Worse that sick people on the job, is those same people sending sick kids to school. How do you think this flu was first spread around. In schools. Adults can use lysol, or hand sanitizers..these kids are nose to nose with other kids, without those things. Its one thing to spread something that you dont know you have, and quite another to know you have it and spread it around, anyway.

My sister has a nursery school and sees this all the time. They drop kids off with diarrhea and everything else you could imagine.

No doubt, some of these people have bosses like Leanne who can't tolerate someone taking a sick day for themselves, let alone for a family member.
We have the perfect work ethic that would certainly contribute to a pandemic. Scary thought.

This is where most European countries seem more civilized than the US. They are more than generous with sick time and vacation time. We could learn a lot from some of them.

OMG!! That is inhumane! Where do you work?? I am going to stay away from there, thats for sure.

In my work place we are not mandated to come in when sick, nor to stay home. It is left up to our discretion, but I must admit I really hate it when someone is at the office coughing and sneezing and sniffling. I have gotten almost paranoid about germs and virus's too. Not freakishly OCD or anything...just a little worried, I guess.
