Hello

This is my first post.

I have been having strange symptoms. Not sure if it's hormonal or perimenopausal? I am 35 it started during my second pregnancy (about 9 months ago). I got ocular migraines... went away after deliver of my baby.

Then I got weird parathesia/twitching/vibrating around face and mouth and lips. Especially after I eat or drink and it's on and off. Sometimes i get it sometimes i dont. all my blood tests normal... thyroid, b12, magnesium, calcium, lymes, etc.

Emg of my hands and arms on both sides normal which included nerve conduction study... because I also have twitchy fingers and hands.

Doctors don't think I am perimenopausal I am too young they say. I didn't get my period back yet since I am breastfeeding... what do you guys think this is?

I am tmj they don't think it's entirely due to tmj they don't know what is wrong yet. No mri of brain and neck and spine yet... still awaiting on that.

I never experienced that, but I,ll bet Hormones are playing a roll in it , tell your DR,s you want your levels checked.

I had ALL the twitching tingling symptoms--numbness, tingling, feelings of pins and needs, shaky feelings , inner vibrations etc when I was 38 and had been breastfeeding my second child for a year with no period. I had all the tests you did, all fine. Eventually the symptoms went away on their own, but it took several months after my period came back to feel normal. I was also getting terrible sleep too, which may have been part of it. I'm 45 now and after seven symptom free years I am now back pn the hormone roller coaster starting peri.

I never got a clear diagnosis at the time--docs stopped at making sure nothing terrible was wrong and shrugged. In hindsight I'm pretty sure it was low estrogen, plus lots of anxiety. No doc or GYN made the connection for me dry.gif I was on antidepressants and xanax to help me cope--they did help a lot.

Over teh years I have had an occaisonal ocular migraine--I get about one every year or so. I see the aura but don't get the pain. Scary, but they resolve after 20 minutes for me. I have read that migraines can be triggered by an estrogen dip.

Hope this helps. You sound just like me and I ended up being fine.

Thank you for your replies. I really appreciate them.

I had my babies back to back and my body never really got time to rest. I am thinking it is hormonal and hope it will go away with time.

Hi there...I've had all of the same symptoms and lots of tests (including a brain scan/MRI) and finally had to go outside my insurance and see an MD who specializes in women's hormonal issues. She suspected that I have a hyperactive thyroid as a result of post-partum thyroiditis and/or low cortisol from severe stress (I gave birth in 9/07 and breastfed until 2/09, conceived again in 1/09 and had a very traumitizing miscarriage in 3/09). She ran bloodwork and we discovered last week that my T4 levels are in fact elevated so I will be having additional tests to see if I have thyroid antibodies. I will also have cortisol testing (low cortisol can also cause these types of symptoms). I did discover that my female hormones (estrogen & progesterone) are "perfect" so there is a low probability that I am in peri-menopause which was a huge relief since I really want another baby. I had trouble believing that was the case since I just was pregnant just a few months ago and my ultrasound showed a normal uterus/ovaries, etc. I don't doubt that they were out of whack after my miscarriage however or after breastfeeding for 17 months. If you search by my username I believe you can read my other post where I go into more details about my symptoms and experience the last few months (they've been absolutely hellish and terrifying). Good luck with everything.

I had my first experience with facial/eye twitching a couple weeks ago when I was getting a massage,, I started to freak out ,, my whole face was spasming .. not sure if she hit some nerve or what ,, that was my first and only experience with that so far .. lets hope its the last. so could be hormonal .. could be nervous system ?

I think it is also true that some women are very very sensitive to hormone fluctuations even within a "normal" reproductive range, such as women with severe PMS. I think this was the case with me when I was going through what you are in my late 30s. My hormones were rebalancing after pregnancy and breastfeeding and I could feel every bump in the road. When you read about all the functions estrogen has in the body--nerves, digestion, emotions, cognition--it's not surprising shifting levels will create lots of symptoms in sensitive women.

Did anyone experience lip quivering and lip twitching?

It is quite odd, I can't describe the feeling very well but I do not like it one bit

I,ve had the lip twitching a few times it,s just a nerve in your lip doing it, I had it last 3 day,s once it is weird but nothing to be concerned about unless it,s constant and doesn,t go away.
