I have been getting weird terrible stomach spasms that I think might be muscle, but not sure. I have had MRI, Cat Scan, Hida and Endoscope. All normal but endoscope said I have esophagitis and dudeonitis. However, when I look up the symptoms the pain is not from swallowing and I have no heartburn. The doctor put me on 40mg of Protonix a week ago and I still get these pains. I don't get them all the time either. I can't find a pattern. It can come on in the middle of the night, or not, after eating, or when no food is there, it's bizarre. I have also had 2 years of pain in my low back and hips and behind my neck which I think is from triggers or fibro.

I'm wondering if the pain is really from the esophagitis or dudeonitis. It feels like a wave of a pain almost like a contraction, very intense and it's right under my ribcage and left to right. Then it will stop then it will come back. Then at times it will linger for a few hours then not.

Maybe it's the esophagitis or the other? I was wondering if it was menopause symptom that some have had and I just also happened to find out I have those other conditions while searching for answers.

Anyone have these type of pains in the stomach

Hi Corky. Is it like in your diaphragm? Mine tends to do something like that then it becomes a dull ache, usually after exercising or working in the yard and carrying things. I too have gastritis but it's just not the same kind of pain.

I also had one in my left lower back a couple of weeks ago and it was definitely muscle spasm so I'm thinking for me, it's the same thing. I have fibro so it's a surprise what's going to hurt from one day to the next.

Hi Corky .... this sounds very familiar to me. I had something very similar a while back .... exactly as you described too. IT came and went, it would hang around for a while and then vanish, and then, come back again some other time. Yes, it did feel like contractions, and in fact, i said those exact words to my husband to describe it .... that was the only way to describe it, isn't it? It's weird. I rem. waking up very early one morning (I am NOT a morning person at all, I sleep LATE, so for me to even wake up early was not good..lol), with this bad pain in my stomach area, and rib cage,,,on the left. I immediately thought the worst, naturally........ I got up, paced, tried to relax, took a xanax...lol...and EVENTUALLY it subsided. I think that was the last time it happened, but I can't rem. really........i DO know however, that was the last time it happened THAT BADLY .... i think i've had other "moments" of this, but a lot less intense. The xanax helped with the muscles tightness and spasming, so I think it was just either anxiety, tension, or whatever........and DEFINATELY hormones!
Yeah, the hormones will make everything WORSE by far.....so even if it were indigestion, let's say ..... the hormonal shifting will INTENSIFY it anyway ....

TY. I really think it can't be from the esophagitis, etc. I think this because the pain can come on at any time, after eating, before eating, in the middle of the night, then not. There is no pattern, except that I keep getting the pains. It's been 3 months now. I'm wondering if I should increase my Estrogel for a week or so and see if the pain stays away.

Hi,
It sounds like PSOAS MUSCLE PAIN. I get that and it is horrific! I've had it more since peri than ever before in my life. The pain is under the ribcage and down.

My husband who is a chiropractor has patients who have that same pain. He's able to help them a lot.
If you palpate around your abdomen you can feel the tightness, and if you press and stretch out the muscle properly it relieves the pain.

Check it out on Google ("psoas muscle pain"). You will find some advice about it. Good luck! smile.gif

P.S.
Google "PSOAS MUSCLE PAIN ABDOMEN" for even further explanations....

Thanks DizzyD:

I thought the psoas muscle was the one that ran across the groin and top of thigh area. Whenever I was given psoas stretches at P/T it was a leg type stretch.

I'll google it and check it out. But yes, when I press on that area when it's really painful it seems like it's grown a little and feels hard.
