Hey ladies:

I was wondering if you guys do kegel exercises - I have not done them that much but I think I inadvertently "exercise" them when I masturbate or have sex. The other day I happened to put my finger up the vagina and I noticed that at the opening there was a "muscle" there that felt quite strong - since I don't use tampons for the past one year (since being on the pill my periods are very light so I use mini-pads) I have not "explored" that area so as to speak. so I don't know what this is - on further exploration it feels like part of the landscape of the interior of the vagina - it was no where near my cervix - just at the opening of the vagina - I was wondering whether that was just the way my vagina was built and it always was there and I never noticed, or my kegel exercises developed this. When I went on the web and googled it I found so many young/middleaged women who had "discovered" certain things about their vaginas and were freaked out by the discovery. On one website the doctor said that the vagina has a lot of "stalagmites and stalactites" so people should not worry about any "unevenness" about the interior of the vagina - unless it is a cause of pain. I have had pap tests done and the doctor has not found any abnormality - but I was just wondering about this.. any comments

My Dr. says I need to exercise mine everyday since my bladder has been falling the last several years, and I can barely hold a tampon in place anymore. blink.gif But who has the energy? rolleyes.gif

Hey guys:

I laughed at the Kegel muscle jokes - but the main reason I started the thread was to see if you guys had felt a kind of hard muscle or "growth" at the entrance of the vagina - it is either a part of my vagina and that is the way the opening to the vagina feels or it is a muscle that I have inadvertently developed. I don't think it is a cyst as it is too big to be one - so I'm still wondering - any answers...

I'm so sorry none of us have been able to give you any answers to your original question. I've been thinking about it and for the life of me I can't imagine what that could be. If you've developed a new muscle there, you must be doing something right... wink.gif As for a cyst, I would think it would be causing you a lot of discomfort. Does it hurt?

Sorry I couldn't be more help. smile.gif

I think you're supposed to do kegels to keep your pee from leaking too, so that would have less to do with the vagina. I only do them when I think I'm leaking pee, but I think it's just discharge because after a couple of days I don't seem to be leaking anymore. Lord knows I don't nee to start peeing my pants on top of everything else!

Hi TexasGirl:

Thanks for your kind response. No it does not hurt and I don't think its a cyst - its too big to be a cyst. I think its just part of the structure of my vagina - I read somewhere that the interior of the vagina is full of hills and valleys - so maybe its a hill LOL - I think this is just part of peri anxiety - LOL but thanks again dahling...

Larafalcon, what you describe sounds like normal pubococcygeus muscles of the pelvic floor to me (the ones Kegel exercises are meant to develop). The location is right, and your sense that you developed them during sexual activity is right. And yes, the inside of the vagina has lots of different shapes and ridges and textures, though I've never heard them described as stalagmites before, LOL. There is a big spongey shape right on top just inside the opening.

Strengthening these muscles helps with urinary incontinence and also with your own sexual pleasure and orgasm, and increases the sensation of tightness for the man. Lots of good reasons to take them out for a twirl!

Haha - that's funny jasmintea - thank you, thank you for your confirmation !! I was beginning to worry when no one responded - I thought maybe they thought it was a tumor and didn't want to scare me LOL - but yes it is exactly at the head of the introitus (a fancy word for opening of the vagina) and its quite strong - inadvertently developed due to masturbation more than anything else I think - since I don't do kegels that much - but the rest of the muscles are not as strong - for example when I try to stop my urine flow midway I don't find it so easy - and so I should start doing my kegels -

BTW - I love your name Jasmintea - I LOVE the smell of jasmin - I've never seen jasmin tea sold in stores though

Again thanks a lot
