Anyone heard of this?

I'm setting on my bed reading when bam my eyes go weird and my head starts to hurt!

Is it the compact fluorescent bulbs?

Not sure but I google and found a article "Compact Fluorescent Bulbs May Cause Migraine Headaches"!

I know the big fluorescent bulbs in office buildings etc bother me> guess I shall had made a connect!

Will remove them for now and see if it helps!

Wonder if anyone else has had a problem with the compact ones?

Hi there!
I absolutely believe that lighting has an impact on migraine. I've experienced this at work in particular. Since changing offices, I've noticed a marked improvement. I noticed that the fluro lights at the supermarket, which are quite strong, really bother me also but they never used to.

Also, I've had a number of visual disturbances over the past 18 months where my left eye sees snowflakes and clouds for between 10 and 20 minutes. On some occasions I've not been able to see much out of this eye other than the outline of objects. I used to panic like you wouldn't believe but now when they occur, every 6 weeks or so, I just try to relax until they pass. Since entering peri, my migraines have changed from headache intensive to migraines without headaches but pain on the left side of my face and head and these visual light shows. I'm definitely more sensitive to lights.

Yep, in my opinion, lighting can trigger migraines or other headaches.

Definately, for me. I dont' even use the overhead flourscents at my office any more -- brought in a floor lamp & use natural lighting from the windows. It greatly improved my headache frequency.

Have a difficult time in stores, especially like Target and Walmart.

Snowy,

I always felt sick (queasy) while working in offices with those fluerescent lights. I think they are BAD for people!

Yes, they can. Before the bios, I remember walking into a store. I was fine until I got to the appliance department. I started going into a migraine. It was horrible. My hubby had to lead me out of the department and take me to the car.

By the way, I am not going to use the new twistie flor. bulb that are suppose to save money ever again. I read that they contain mercury! If you break one, there is no way to clean the mercury up.

Snowy: I was wondering if you're talking about actual fluorescent lights, or the cfb bulbs that shebee refers to as the twisty bulbs, which is what they look like. lol I don't like the quality of the bulb type ones at all. I know they are environmentally more responsible, but I can't stand the quality of the light, all yellowy or something. I like the bulbs that have the bluish white tinge to them. I don't know if they cause migraines, but I certainly don't like using them for reading. I put them in areas of my house where the quality of the lighting doesn't matter so much, like the outdoor lighting, the garage, the laundry room, utility closets and hallways, but I won't put them in lamps in living spaces. They are ok in overhead fixtures because I prefer lamplight and don't use the overheads very much. lol

I truly want to like the cfb's, especially because you change them so infrequently, but the quality of the light is important to me. Maybe they will improve in the future.
