Did anyone see Dr. Oz on The View this morning? He said 1,000 mg of Vitamin D everyday will help you not catch the Swine flu this fall. I already knew this about Vitamin D, and I take it everyday, but hearing it from a very respected Dr. confirmed my reasons for taking it. He didn't say anything about getting the new vaccine one way or another. I found that interesting. smile.gif

I did see Dr. Oz but had heard this before. I dont take a supplement of vitamin D but try to spend at least 30 mins outside in the direct sunlight everyday the sun is out. So far my levels have gotten back to normal from doing this. Hopefully it will me against swine flu as well.

And yes I think it is very interesting that he did not mention the vaccine.
Food for thought.

This could explain why kids and the elderly are so susceptible.

Children don't get nearly as much Vitamin D as they should. Years ago, we kids were always out playing in the sun--no video games, no computers--we made our fun out in the fresh air on our bikes, playing ball, etc. We sure were healthy, too! Today, even when you can tear kids away from their indoor diversions, we slather them with sun block so any benefits from being out in the sun are cancelled out.

The elderly are mostly cooped up indoors, too.

Supplementation with Vitamin D3 is certainly a very good option.

I didn't see Dr. Oz, but I have heard that less sunshine and the resulting lower vitamin D levels might account for why flu affects the Northern hemisphere more in the colder months than the warmer ones.

thats good then as I have been taking about 4,000iu a day for the last 2 months!

I found out my D was low but even before that I started taking it because I had read about it's benefits. I was only taking 1,000IU daily. After finding out it was low, I started taking 4000IU a day plus 15 min in the sun daily no sunblock.

Going to watch Dr.Oz's new show talking about Swine Flu should be interesting.

Very interesting, but if older people are at less risk than younger people for swine flu but it is the older people that are vitamin D deficient, then why is not the other way ??!! huh.gif unsure.gif
