I haven't posted here in a while - I started HRT last September after not having a period for 6 years. My doc preferred that I cycle: 1MG estradiol every day, 10MG genera Provera 10 days out of a month. For the first three - four months my periods were okay, albeit kind of long, lasting 10 and sometimes more days. Everything went haywire in the spring of 2009 and one period lasted 21 (!) *******' days and was heavy, to boot! I called the doc and he tweaked my dose of "P" to 15 days out of the month. Since then I've been back to 10-12 day long periods and I'm getting just plain tired of them after not having them since 2002. I'm 52 and the last year of bleeding again is depressing me. I'd rather go back to the hot flashes! I asked my doc about going on continuous HRT but he strongly recommended against: said the threat of breast cancer was too great.
The reason I originally started HRT was due to the awful PVCs I started getting in 2007. The hot flashes were also pretty bad, so I figured I would give HRT a try. In my research, I read that "P" sometimes makes palps worse, which I think is what happened to me, because after a year on HRT, the palps are still kicking. Both my gyno and cardiologist say that palps usually only happen during peri and mine started long after I was post. All I know is, I think it's time to wean myself off the HRT and see how I feel.
Does anyone have any experience getting off cyclical HRT? I know I have to slowly cut back on the estrogen during a few months time, but do I keep on taking the "P" every month for 15 days? Do I take my usual amount, 10MG or cut back on that, too? I know I should ask my doctor, but I'd like to hear experiences of real women who've gone through it.
Thanks in advance,
Sunny
